— Please tell us a bit about the different private villas and the facilities.
Desmond: “There are 10 individual villas, six with 55 sqm and three with 70 sqm. The grandest villa is 150 sqm with a huge bedroom with four-poster bed and a separate living area, which has a small kitchen, fridge, temperature controlled wine cabinet, a Linn amplifier with DVD/CD and Wi-Fi throughout. The bathroom has a round jacuzzi and sliding doors constructed from weathered reclaimed wood from an old Thai ocean liner.
All bathrooms feature an indoor power shower and outdoor rain shower on a teak deck. The villas are equipped with air conditioning, flat screen TV, Bose DVD and CD player and a digital safe.
Each villa is furnished differently, giving each one a unique character and feeling. Amenities are supplied by Urb of Thailand and create an aroma that is distictivly Thai.”

— What are some of the services that you are offering your guests?
Desmond: “We are really open to suggestions and do offer a total concierge service. We have many in house services like traditional Thai and oil massage which are always very popular and sometimes yoga or pilates intructors are requested.
There are a variety of services and activities available from scuba diving, secret island tours accompanied by fantastic picnics, trips to virgin islands on speedboats, sunset sailing on an old Chinese junk drinking chilled champagne... The list is endless and all services are custom made for our guests.
We also have five quad bikes, kayaks, wind surfing equipment, Seadoo jet ski, a 4 seater Seadoo water craft and mountain bikes which are all available to the guests.”

— How would you describe the architecture and style of the interior of the villas?
Desmond: “The style is I suppose quite minimalist with clean lines that make the most of light, form, detail of material and space. To borrow the old quote from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe — "Less is more".
The space is complimented and warmed by the specially commisioned pieces by Antonio “Budji” Layug, which are both elegant and emphasise the use of sustainable, renewable resources that has made “Budji” a pioneer in eco furniture and design. The result is a harmonious balance between ethnic grace, elegance and simplicity.”

— What would you describe to be the essence, your philosophy?
Desmond: “As only one group can rent the villas at any time I would say that our phillosophy is best described as slimplistic luxury. The word luxury is almost an abused word now and seems to be used to describe everything from toilet paper to sandwich spreads.
It is in effect a private, luxurious hotel but a hotel where the guests are not restricted by normal hotel regulations. The advantages over even the most opulent hotel are quite simple and afford guests the freedom to do what they want, when they want.

— How would you like your guests to remember their holiday?
Desmond: “Hopefully they would have spent it exactly as they had intended. That they had eaten, drunk, rested, celebrated, relaxed, played, dreamed and thoroughly enjoyed themselves in a manner that they see fitting and have created themselves.”

— To you personally, what is so special about the private villas?
Desmond: “The sense of space and privacy makes it totally unique for a beachfront villa in Thailand and we are fortunate to have a virtually private beach — there are no offical private beaches in Thailand as all belong to the Royal Family but this is as close as it gets. The fact that it is so quiet is also wonderful and the only sound is that of the sea and tropical birds, waking up in the morning to the smell of freshly bloomed frangjapanis.”

— Please tell us a bit about the location of the private villas.
Desmond: “The villas are located on the South-Eastern tip of Samui which has been dubbed “Virgin Samui” as it is still undeveloped and retains the charm of Samui in the old days.
The south coast is really the nicest area of the island and seems like a million miles from the other busier and touristic areas. But it is also worth remembering that the nearest town is just 10 minutes away and the nightlife and shopping area of Chaweng a mere 25 minutes away for those who want a night out or need a bit of retail therapy.”

— What do you particularly like about this part of Koh Samui?
Desmond: “The friendly village atmosphere, watching locals walk their buffalo’s down the beach just before sunset, going to local restaurants for special Southern style delights. The lack of tourists, cars and hotels. The local food market and especially the seafood section where fresh fish are delieved daily.
The small beach bar shack further down the beach which has a refreshingly simple menu and only sells two brands of beer and pina coladas with fresh Samui coconuts. The natural beauty and the slow pace of life...”

— What are some of the activities that you offer or that are offered nearby?
Desmond: “There are beautiful waterfalls to discover and you definitely should ride the elephants. Or take a hike into the hills from where you have stunning views over the ocean. A visit to the temples and pagoda is also worth it — as is the rum distillery which is owned by a French couple that makes incredible rum from local sugar cane.
There are also lots of good hiking trails. And of course our quad bikes are just waiting to explore the area.”

— Is there something that in your opinion you just have to do or see in the area?
Desmond: “I would say a day trip to the smaller islands is a must. They are mostly uninhabited and absolute heaven. It’s also fun to take a traditional Thai long tail boat and throw a line in the water, catch your lunch and bbq it on the beach. Or to spoil yourself, a day trip to Kamalaya Wellness Retreat which is 5 minutes away and offers the best spa service in Samui and possibly Thailand.”

— To you personally, what is most rewarding about renting the private villas to guests?
Desmond: “People’s requirements are always different and it’s satisfying being able to provide and find solutions to what is requested. It is always pleasent when guests return and become friends.”
