How would you describe Atelier House in a nutshell?
Atelier House is a unique vacation villa on Barbados. It brings a touch of relaxed contemporary chic to an island that sometimes displays a bit of faded glory. Our thinking when conceiving the building was to create a space that echoed a comfortable art gallery that one could live in.
What was your inspiration to rent Atelier House to vacation guests?
We built Atelier House on a virgin piece of land overlooking a stunning mahogany wood with beautiful views to the sea. We always wanted to build a house from scratch and, once we saw this plot, knew it had to be here. The design flowed from the topography of the land and our admiration for South American contemporary modern, the chief exponent of which is, in our view, Marcio Kogan.
We decided to rent it out to discerning vacation guests because we got such an amazing response to it from visitors and wanted to share the experience with others.
To you personally, what is so special about Atelier House?
Atelier has been a labour of love for Amanda and I. Working closely with the architect, we shaped the house we wanted to live in ourselves and, in so doing, have created a landmark building for Barbados.
Visitors are genuinely amazed at the quality of space, light, finish and of course the views. Seeing people really positively affected by the building, by something that we’ve created, is a very special feeling.
To you personally, what has been most rewarding about renting Atelier House to vacation guests?
Without doubt it is the happiness it creates in those that stay. The comments and reviews we get are out of this world. Priceless.
