How would you describe Casa Marques in a nutshell?

Casa Marques is a beautiful, artsy boutique hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Beautifully situated in the bohemian neighbourhood Santa Teresa, which overlooks the city, our boutique hotel is a mixture of Colonial and Brazilian architecture. Its location and design make it the perfect spot for people who have already explored the touristic areas in Rio and are looking for something with a calm atmosphere.

Casa Marques rooms & rates

Very peaceful surroundings make the perfect backdrop for our small luxury hotel, with views of the sea and the mountains. There are three types of rooms at Casa Marques. Our Standard Suite is 20 sqm, the Deluxe Suite is 25 sqm, and the Master Suite is 40 sqm.

Three of the hotel rooms are in the traditional Colonial house, while the modern rooms in our contemporary annex have larger windows. Some of our guests are very appreciative of the traditional rooms, while other guests prefer the contemporary architecture. It is quite nice that we can satisfy both tastes.

What is especially wonderful is that all of our rooms have the same spectacular view of the sea and the mountains. The interior design is unique in each room, with art and furniture made by Brazilian designers. The Master Suites tend to be the most popular with our guests. The Master Suite in the annex has a bathtub, while the one in the Colonial house has a balcony.

Our small hotel has a rooftop terrace that spans across the entire house. There is a swimming pool, which is heated during the winter, and a bar that is open from Wednesday to Sunday. From the rooftop of the hotel the views of Rio are stunning, with a clear view of Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf Mountain and the statue of Christ the Redeemer.

Breakfast is served every morning and our guests can also have lunch at the hotel until 4 pm. They have access to WiFi, and can partake in cooking classes, jujitsu classes (which are held offsite), Capoeira classes, as well as painting classes. Sailing trips or massages can also be arranged. Of course, we are available to give recommendations on what to see and do in Rio de Janeiro.

Things to do in Rio de Janeiro

  • Art / Culture
  • Shopping / Markets
  • Night life
  • Golf
  • Boat trips

Museu do Amanhã is Rio’s science museum that was designed by Santiago Calatrava and is built right on the water and a spectacular sight to see. There are many more great museums and places in the city, such as the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon, Theatre Municipal, Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon beaches, and much more. For guests who enjoy visiting the cultural sights there is plenty to do in Rio.

The neighbourhood just behind Jardim Botanico is one of my favourites. It has only small Colonial houses, a lot of restaurants, and even waterfalls. I can recommend a visit to the garden followed by a walk through the neighbourhood. On Sunday mornings, there is Ipanema fair, a huge flea market with lots of pop-up shops, that is also very fun to visit.

The location of Casa Marques

Directly surrounding the hotel is a very safe residential area. However, at night we do recommend taking a taxi. Casa Marques is located in Santa Teresa, near the Tijuca forest. It is in between two great areas, with Ipanema and Copacabana to the south, and the downtown area of Lapa to the north, which is where Carioca Aqueduct and Fábrica da Bhering are located. Also very close by is the Christ monument, as well as all the other beautiful sights in Rio. Only a short drive from our hotel are plenty of great restaurants and everything else is essentially 15 mins away: the beach, the centre, Ipanema, Copacabana, and Lapa with all the samba clubs, bars, and shopping.

When is the best time to visit Rio de Janeiro?

Our winter lasts from May until September, with the coldest months being July and August. So, during this time it may not be the best time to visit. Instead, I would recommend coming during December, January, and February. It is a great time to be here, with New Year’s Eve and Carnival. During March and April there are fewer tourists, which also makes it a great time to visit.
