How would you describe Finca Verde in a nutshell?
Finca Verde is an authentic 19th-century farmhouse located in the heart of the island. It is a place of inspiration, tranquillity, and connection, surrounded by a rural setting with breathtaking views of the sea and mountains.
What is the story behind Finca Verde, and what was your inspiration to create it?
I first set foot on the island in 2019, and just three months later, I bought a charming little house in the center of San Mateo. At the time, I had no idea this was only the beginning. Two years later, I discovered this finca, and it was absolute love at first sight. I sold my first house to purchase it, and we began renovations, carefully preserving the soul and history of the place. For me, this house represents a sanctuary — a space for family, friends, creativity, and artistic expression. It’s a home filled with stories and waiting to be shared.
How would you describe the atmosphere and interior design of Finca Verde?
Finca Verde is a deeply personal space. Every object here has a meaning, a story, and often comes from my travels to faraway places. The decor has been carefully curated, with nothing left to chance. The atmosphere is one of complete tranquillity, offering spaces for everyone to find their own peace. At the heart of the home is a central patio, a vibrant living space shaded by avocado trees and wisteria, offering cool respite during the summer months.
To you personally, what is so special about Finca Verde?
What makes Finca Verde truly special is the moment you step into the verdant patio. The authentic architecture, with its covered wooden balcony and use of raw materials like old stone floors and parquet, creates a timeless charm. The location is equally remarkable, situated halfway between the sea and the mountains, in a tranquil rural area that feels like a hidden gem.
The finca centers around a large, shaded patio that serves as the main living area. This space connects to the dining room, kitchen, a cozy lounge with a fireplace, and a shower room.
On the upper floor, a covered wooden balcony leads to the master bedroom, which features a private bathroom and an additional shower room. The balcony itself offers a serene spot to enjoy views of the patio below.
On the garden level, there are two additional bedrooms. One of these has an en suite bathroom, while the other has a nearby shower room.
Off the kitchen, you’ll find a terrace equipped with a gas barbecue, perfect for summer dining. This area overlooks one of the many gardens. Just a few steps further, there’s a table tennis area, a swimming pool (ready by summer/autumn 2025), and a petanque court for outdoor entertainment.

The finca offers a range of facilities and amenities to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable:
At the finca, guests can enjoy activities like table tennis, petanque, and a relaxing dip in the swimming pool (ready by summer/autumn 2025). The tranquil setting also makes it perfect for yoga, meditation, and artistic residencies. Additionally, the property can be hired for photo shoots.
The nearest beach is a 30-minute drive away, either in Las Palmas or Telde. My personal favorite is Maspalomas, with its expansive white sand dunes — a must-visit spot about an hour away.
My highlights:
Finca Verde is conveniently located 40 minutes from the international airport and 30 minutes from Las Palmas. Nestled towards the center of the island, it’s just five minutes by car or a 10-15 minute walk from the village of Vega de San Mateo, in the small hamlet of Lomo Caballo. Vega de San Mateo has all the amenities you’ll need, including several restaurants, supermarkets, and a vibrant market from Friday to Sunday.
From the finca, a charming path through the fields leads to the village center, where you’ll find restaurants, supermarkets, and a weekend market renowned across the island for its fresh fruits and vegetables. The nearest beaches, located in Las Palmas or Telde, are only a 30-minute drive away.
For those looking to explore, Maspalomas and its iconic white sand dunes are about an hour’s drive south. The picturesque village of Tejeda, located in the island’s center, is just 35 minutes away.
This part of Gran Canaria offers a calm and authentic experience, far removed from the over-tourism of the south. Its central location provides easy access by car to both the seaside and the mountains, making it an ideal base to explore the island’s diverse landscapes.
The best time to visit is from May to October, when the weather is consistently fantastic. However, November to April also has its charm, with cooler mountain air and occasional rain showers that quickly give way to sunshine along the coast. I’ve even been here in late December, enjoying 28°C weather at home. Each season offers its own unique allure.
