An introduction to hinterhideout

How would you describe hinterhideout in a nutshell?

hinterhideout is a space to gather with loved ones — a secluded place in the forest with a private lake and river. It’s ideal for a small family or two to spend quality time together alongside nature.

How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of hinterhideout?

The hideout is a quiet, contemporary house with striking, black exteriors and cool, white and concrete interiors. Designed by Saucier Perrotte (one of Canada’s leading architects), the space invites the outdoors in.

To you personally, what is so special about hinterhideout?

For me, the space is a hidden gem. It’s a sanctuary where you can come together with family or friends and be surrounded by what I call an “enchanted forest”. It’s hard to describe the magic you feel here, with the sound of the river, the tall trees and the beautiful design of the house. It’s something very special.

hinterhideout rooms & rates

Starting on the main floor, there is a large, open-concept living area with a kitchen, living room and dining area, as well as a den and a powder room. Down a few stairs sits the “guest room”; a king-sized bedroom with floor-to-ceiling windows and views of the river and forest.

On the top floor, which is accessed via a gorgeous staircase from the main living area, there’s a yoga/gym area, three semi-private, smaller rooms (these are ideal for kids or singles) and a full bathroom. The 3 bedrooms each have their own door in the hallways but they are side by side and have adjoining pocket doors that can be closed and locked.

Lastly, the master bedroom sits at the end of the hall, with an ensuite bathroom and a large tub overlooking the lake and river.

Things to do in Québec & Sutton

  • Shopping / Markets
  • Wine tastings
  • Wildlife / Animals
  • Massages / Treatments
  • Yoga classes
  • Skiing
  • Hiking
  • Cycling

The area offers an abundance of activities to do out in nature, no matter what the season. From snowshoeing, downhill and cross-country skiing in the winter to hiking, canoeing, swimming and biking in the summer. There are blueberry fields and wineries nearby, as well as horseback riding stables, spas and farmer’s markets. The options are endless.

If I had to highlight three activities, I’d recommend going skiing at Mount Sutton, visiting the local wineries and being pampered at the Balnea Spa in Bromont.

The location of hinterhideout

hinterhideout is located in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, just five minutes drive from the town of Sutton. The town itself has evolved significantly over the last few years, with many young businesses opening up, such as trendy restaurants, small grocers and shops. Sutton is just over an hour’s drive southeast of Montreal.

When is the best time to visit Québec?

Honestly, every season has something special — it’s impossible to choose! The white palette of winter juxtaposed against the black exterior of the house is extremely photogenic and beautiful. The property itself can be discovered with snowshoes and curling up by the fire is encouraged.

In the springtime, the water starts to flow, the buds are blooming and more wildlife can be seen. This is also when the hiking season commences. In summer, you can go cycling and swimming in the lake and river, as well as visit the local wineries. Fall is my favourite time to go hiking when the leaves are turning and I love enjoying the fire in the evenings.
