Interview By:

— What was your inspiration to buy a vacation home in Verbier?

Fabio: “I loved the fact that Verbier combines both incredible skiing and it is also a beautiful village. In the last 15 years, everything that has been built is all in old wood, which adds to the charm of the resort as well as the incredible skiing.

Verbier is considered quite fashionable, trendy and glamorous, but at the same time it’s very sporty. Nobody comes here just for the crowd, they all come for the skiing. Compared to many other luxury resorts that also focus on designer shops and a jetset lifstyle, Verbier offers world class sking and great apres ski too.

It was also very important to me that the resort is accessible from London. I can fly to Geneva and then it’s only an hour and fourty minutes drive, so its also an easy destination for weekends.”

— Tell us a bit about the renovation of La Vallée Blanche.

Fabio: “It was built in 1970 and used to be quite plain and split into lots of small apartments. When it was sold in 2008, the entire building was completely gutted and redesigned from the inside to the outside. It was a two year project, using old wood on the exterior to regain the alpine charm and change the small apartments into four larger ones.

As the interior was so important to me for my own apartment, I hired an architect with whom I had worked before and travelled frequently to Verbier to oversee the project.

I’m also a bit obsessed with technology, so we have used the latest equipment such as: touch panels and remote controls to operate the television, watch movies, use the internet, operate the lighting system and blinds etc.

In each master bedroom there’s an iPod and Wi-Fi and in two of the master bedrooms there are mirrors that can change into a television. You can watch TV, DVDs or YouTube. We also have plasma TVs and speakers in the kitchen, living room and bedrooms.”

— To you personally what is so special about this vacation apartment?

Fabio: “The location of La Vallée Blanche is amazing. From the center of Verbier there is a road which goes straight to the main ski lift. The apartment is right in the middle, 150 meters from the ski lift and right in the center of Verbier. People can finish skiing and walk to the flat easily and safely. The location is the most important thing.

The standard of architecture of La Vallee Blanche is very good and you rarely find apartments that have this level of detail, especially in this price range it’s quite special. La Vallée Blanche is in the 15-20,000 Francs per week range and most others of similar quality cost around 50-70,000 Francs. La Vallée Blanche is comfortable for families and extremely accessible.”

— What sort of feedback do you get from your guests about La Vallée Blanche?

Fabio: “This is not a business for me. It’s very personal, so when I get feedback, I address it carefully. One person said that everything was fantastic, but they thought the kitchen didn’t have enough pans to cook with so we bought more pans. When people aren’t satisfied I want to know and to make the necessary changes immediately.

In general, the feedback has been very positive. Customer service is very important to me.”

— What kind of services do you offer your vacation guests?

Fabio: “There’s a full list of services included in the rental prices at La Vallée Blanche offered by Verbier concierge and events company Kando. A dedicated member of staff is available almost 24 hours to look after the guests, book restaurants, clubs, spa and beauty treatments, ski packages, guides, helis-skiing, airport transfers and in some cases organize events, which makes a big difference.

We have many different items and services included in the price of the room. Our vacation guests will receive a bottle of Laurent Perrier Champagne and a welcome tray containing essentials like bread, milk, tea, coffee, cereal and jams. They can also enjoy complimentary use of our Apple TV movie and music library and the iPads in each double room.

And finally, our guests also get 10% off ski hire here in Verbier and have free use of 4VK freeride custom made skis.”
