L’Hostellerie de l’Abbaye de la Celle is situated among the Coteaux Varois vineyards in Provence, France. This small luxury hotel and intimate refuge is the ideal place for a gastronomic journey with friends or family and offers the serenity of an old Benedictine abbey from the XIIth century.
Please tell us a bit about the history of L’Abbaye de la Celle.
The hotel is adjacent to a 12th century Benedictine abbey in a hidden valley at the foothills of the Loube, three kilometres from Brignoles. It gained notoriety when Garcende de Sabran, Queen of Provence, took to the veil. For Alain Ducasse, it is the perfect balance of lifestyle and heritage.

We have 5 rooms and 5 suites at Hostellerie l’Abbaye de la Celle. The Lucrèce de Barras Suite, in which General De Gaulle used to sleep, is my personal favourite.

On the first floor of the Priory, the spacious suite at Hostellerie l’Abbaye de la Celle which seduced the General de Gaulle offers a view on the park. Its king-size bed, the bathroom with a bathtub and a beautiful dressing room in clear oak guarantee it a comfort as high as its prestige. French-style ceiling, Dutch desk and Yves Niorets paintings are harmonized in a set of ecru and red. Possibility to bind the communicating suites.
On the first floor of Hostellerie l’Abbaye de la Celle, with a view of the park, this suite with beautiful proportions plays sophistication around a king-size bed. Walls limed delicately and inlaid with parma, silk curtains have an elegant combination with XVIIIth century style furniture in walnut. The bathroom in white earthenware of Salernes and the small lounge distil a sophisticated atmosphere.
With its fantastic view over the raised terrace and gardens, this mansard-roofed room on the second floor of the Priory at Hostellerie l’Abbaye de la Celle cultivates a dreamy and airy feeling. In a green and cream case kernel, the big bed sculptured in clear patina and the furniture in walnut are forwarded by vaporous taffetas. The bathroom in earthenware of Salernes white plays the transparency and the modernity thanks to its glass furniture.
Rich with a sight on the raised terrace, the ancient amphoras and the aromatic herb garden, this mansard-roofed room on the second floor of the Priory at Hostellerie l’Abbaye de la Celle irradiates freshness and joy. Its pure and graphic lines underline with delicacy the furniture of mocked character. The decoration plays on ecru notes, pink and orange aswell. In the diapason with the bathroom and its bathtub, in beige earthenware and apricot.
Nested in an alcove, this mansard-roofed room on the second floor of the Priory at Hostellerie l’Abbaye de la Celle offers a picturesque sight on the marketplace and its plane trees. Bedhead in clear oak paneling, lounge corner of ancient furniture and delicate veils in the camaïeux of bruises weave a restful atmosphere. In contrast, the bathroom gets dressed of red and yellow earthenware and a on feet bathtub charmingly retro.
This room in the Beguine convent at Hostellerie l’Abbaye de la Celle has a sitting room and a semi-private garden overlooking the Candelon vines. Go through the purple-toned sitting room and the sculpted-wood bed, made for General de Gaulle, dominates the scene. The floral-patterned silk fabrics and the bathroom with an olive and red-tiled tub typify a lively and warm ambiance.
This mansard Junior Suite at Hostellerie l’Abbaye de la Celle has a touch of boudoir. The duplex, in the Beguine convent, has a semi-private garden opening onto the Candelon vines. Raspberry colors rhyme with a light décor of daring and sober touches, blending modern and baroque. A cast iron banister, a patina on the bed - the tiled mezzanine bathroom and bedroom are in light white.
This Junior Suite in the Beguine convent at Hostellerie l’Abbaye de la Celle has a private garden with a shaded terrace and teak furniture. Here the spirit can wander, drawn by the vines and the Candelon Mountain. There is a living room and a bathroom with a tub on the ground floor, a bedroom on the mezzanine: the decor’s light complexion is livened with aqua green and delicate still lives.
This vast Junior Suite in the Beguine convent at Hostellerie l’Abbaye de la Celle has a garden shaded by a wisteria and a winter garden. The beige decor and antique furniture invite one to travel. On the upper floor an Arabesque painted bed head gives the bedroom an oriental feel. On the lower ground, the living room is an Asian dream with dark wood screens and green; harmonizing with the bathroom.

Its beige decor is a majestic setting for the four-poster bed. The wood furniture complements the garnet fabric. The bathroom, with both bath and shower, is filled with natural light. Suitable for the disabled.
The main feature at the hotel is of course our Michelin-starred restaurant with chef is Nicolas Pierantoni. We also offer cooking classes and we have a wine conservatory in our garden and the wine house, which is adjacent to the hotel. Other hotel facilities include the park, the Abbey vineyards and our heated swimming-pool. Finally, there is also a complimentary electric car available on request
You can enjoy a massage on-site or participate in a cooking class. We offer wine tastings and vineyard visits. You can walk among the vegetable gardens, the herb garden or the conservatory of 88 grape varieties. We have a Pétanque course in the garden or you can have a pique nice in the garden which we are happy to prepare. Massages and treatments are also available on request and we have yoga sets in all the rooms.
Hiking or biking tours of the area are also very exciting holiday activities. Bikes are available on request. There is a tennis club in the village and a golf course only 15 minutes from the hotel.
In the heart of the Coteaux Varois vineyards, L’Abbaye de la Celle is located between Marseille, Aix-en-Provence and Saint-Tropez in Provence, France.
