— How would you describe Lisbon Palace in a nutshell?

Rita: “Lisbon Palace is a spacious and luxurious 18th century Portuguese vacation villa with 5 + 2 bedrooms located in picturesque Belém, the setting for most of Lisbon’s iconic and important monuments. The interior offers a good combination of period features and contemporary high-end furnishings.”

— Please tell us about the villa and the rooms.

Rita: “The Palace’s main floor is around 460 square meters. Here are all the common areas as well as five bedrooms, four of them with private bathrooms. These rooms are big and beautiful, with simple decoration such as antique paintings on the wall. The bedroom windows overlook the street while their double-glazing ensures that it remains quiet inside. Downstairs are two additional bedrooms, one bathroom and the big laundry room.

Everything in the palace feels super big, corridors are the size of a living room, and the main reception room is about 120 square meters. The kitchen has an eating area for lunch and dinner. The former kitchen, with the antique tiling all around, is now the TV room while the old library is filled with old books and objects and now serves as a dining room with a big table that seats 14. All of the Palace’s common rooms and the corridors have direct access to the generous gardens.”

— Please tell us about the facilities and services offered at Lisbon Palace.

Rita: “Lisbon Palace has a housekeeper who comes Monday through Friday for four hours each day. If guests require more help, we can arrange for that at any time. Furthermore we can recommend amazing chefs, help find babysitters, and even have a travel guide. This way we can ensure that our guests’ experiences are highly personalized each time, providing a true Lisbon experience with a Portuguese insight into local life.”

— What makes Lisbon Palace so special in your eyes?

Rita: “What makes the house truly special is that it is a big vacation home in the heart of Lisbon. When you are there, you feel like you are in a spacious house in a remote area, with a big garden to enjoy and there’s hardly any noise from the city. But you are within walking distance to a lot of Lisbon’s most important attractions, such as Jerónimos Monastery or Belém Tower. It is a wonderful place for families and children always love it, as there is so much space for them to explore.

Lisbon Palace is also a super special place in that there’s a combination of minimalism with old palace grandeur and features such as wood panelling, Portuguese tiles and paintings on the walls. Upon refurbishing the Palace, we tried to keep all of its historic elements. The window frames were falling apart but we redid them in wood so that we could keep the original features. In the end, we even received an award for how the renovation was done.”

— What was your inspiration to refurbish Lisbon Palace and rent it to guests?

Rita: “We are both from Portugal and had wanted to buy a house in Lisbon to be transformed into our vacation home. We were looking for a big house, something authentic and representative of our country, and with outdoor space. When we found this palace, it was falling apart as no one had looked after it for a while. For a year we worked on it and were able to transform it into the simple, yet luxurious vacation rental that it is now.”
