An introduction to Loma del Ángel

How would you describe Loma del Ángel in a nutshell?

Loma del Ángel is a two-suite hotel in a colonial-style building in the heart of La Havana Vieja, Cuba. A place to disconnect from the world and discover serenity.

To you personally, what is so special about Loma del Ángel?

What we try to achieve is to make our guests feel as if they were at their own house. Being a small place, the attention to our guests is key to us. We provide a fully customizable, careful service, 24 hours a day.

And on the other hand, Loma del Ángel also offers an oasis of tranquility, comfort and calm within the exciting activity of la Havana Vieja.

Is Loma del Ángel best suited for couples, families, or groups? What’s your policy on kids?

The hotel is perfect for couples. If you wish to come with your family or a small group of friends, we strongly recommend to rent the full house with the service included.

We have baby cots for people traveling with young kids and also offer extra beds.

Loma del Ángel is located in a refurbished colonial-style building with 3 floors. On the ground floor is the reception, a lobby and our dining area where the breakfast is served. A hidden patio and the kitchen are also located here. The two suites are located on the first and second floors.

The ‘Living room suite’, with a spacious living room as its name suggests, a wonderful bathroom and the bedroom. From the bedroom, a small balcony looks out onto the street, perfect for an aperitif.

The other room located on the second floor is the ‘Terrace suite’. It has the same gorgeous bathroom as the ‘Living room suite’, but what truly makes it special is its beautiful large terrace where you can enjoy your breakfast with views over the city

Things to do in Havana & Habana Vieja

  • Art / Culture
  • Night life

You can walk along the world-famous Malecón, or explore la Habana Vieja on foot and get lost in Obispo, Oficios and Mervaders streets. You’ll discover palaces, churches and convents as well as famous squares such as Plaza de la Catedral, Plaza de San Francisco de Asia and Plaza Vieja. All are surrounded by bars and restaurants frequented by artists, artisans and musicians.

Other interesting places to visit are Plaza de Armas with antiques and a book market, the Bacardi building, an Art Deco jewel, the National Museum of Music, the Rum Museum, the Museo de la Revolución and the National Museum of Fine Arts.

Must-see bars are ‘Sloppy Joe’s’, an emblematic bar from the 1920’s with famous regulars such as Ernest Hemingway and Frank Sinatra, and ‘El Floridita’, the 187-year-old ‘King of Daiquiri’.

And I’d recommend dinner at la Guarida, a restaurant located in a wonderful palace, ice cream at Heladeria Coppelia and lunch at Café Laurent.

And finally, my 3 highlights for the rest of Cuba are: Trinidad (315 km away) is one of the best preserved colonial cities, not only in Cuba but also in the whole of America. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Diving at Maria la Gorda beach (301 km away) with crystal clear waters and coastal reefs is a dream-come-true for any diving lover.

Otherwise we’d recommend Viñales (174 km away) and Cayo Jutías (226 km away).

The location of Loma del Ángel

We are located in the ‘Loma del Angel’ district, a place with a lot of history near Iglesia del Angel Jose Martí, where writer Cirilo Villaverde got his inspiration for his novel ‘Cecilia Valdés’.

Our neighborhood is part of la Habana Vieja, the old and charismatic heart of the Cuban capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The coolest thing about this neighborhood is its location inside la Havana Vieja, and just a short walk distance from its squares and well-known monuments. At the same time, it is also a very calm area to stay.

When is the best time to visit Havana?

Cuba has a never ending summer and any time of the year is a good season to visit the island. Perhaps the best season is from December to March, which is the dry season with low humidity, lower temperatures and little rain.
