An introduction to Manoir Laurette

How would you describe Manoir Laurette in a nutshell?

Manoir Laurette is a secret gem in the heart of France’s Bordeaux countryside. Bohemian spirit meets modern-day luxury. A 19th-century country house hotel surrounded by vineyards and sunflower fields offers an idyllic retreat for those seeking an authentic boutique hotel experience.

What’s your background and what was your inspiration to open Manoir Laurette?

We are both musicians who have a love for wine, food, interiors and slow living. We wanted to escape the rat race and make our own rules, create our Shangri-La where we could find peace and beauty and share this with guests seeking an authentic experience, without compromising on comfort and service. We, ourselves are discerning travellers with high expectations of hospitality and we wanted to create the kind of hotel we love to stay in but often can’t find!

How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of Manoir Laurette?

Laid-back and inspiring, the Manoir exists to provide the traveller with a relaxing, peaceful and experience-rich stay. The interiors are a mix of beautiful antique pieces, collected over many years of travel and adventure set against beautiful modern fabrics and fittings. Bathrooms are luxurious, with vintage-style fittings and each one is totally unique.

To you personally, what is so special about Manoir Laurette?

The simple, naturally present elegance and beauty both in the house and the garden. The stunning sunset light flooding in through the windows and casting light on our stone walls. The enchantment of the mature gardens. This special combination allows those who visit to find relaxation and peace, and it’s what made us fall in love with the Manoir.

Is Manoir Laurette best suited for couples, families, groups? What’s your policy on kids?

Manoir Laurette is great for couples as it offers romance and beauty. But it is also great for families, with small children – children love to explore the garden, spotting fish in the pond and collecting hen eggs. We have a special children’s breakfast menu. Parents love to be able to enjoy a pizza picnic with a bottle of wine from our cave while the kids play in the garden.

We provide cots, extra beds, a selection of kids' books, baby baths and high chairs. There is also a microwave available for parents of children under 18 months to heat up milk and baby food.

The location of Manoir Laurette

We are in the quintessential French countryside, surrounded by vineyards, corn and sunflower fields. The area is perfect for discovering famous wine appellations such as Bordeaux, St Emilion and Sauternes, as well as smaller wine villages. The beautiful city of Bordeaux and the town of art and history Bergerac are great days out. This region is famous for its wonderful farmers' markets and one of France’s most famous is close-by in St Foy le Grande. We are surrounded by numerous ancient Bastide and Chateaux towns such as Monsegur and Duras and great for a day trip is a visit to Arcachon to see Europe’s biggest sand dune and taste the world-famous Oysters.

The landscape of the region is full of beauty and romance, sloping vineyards and sunflower fields bursting with colour. The local produce is exceptional and we love to discover it at the charming produce markets – the famous Marmandais tomatoes, the reddest, sweetest strawberries, world-famous Agen prunes, St Emilion macaroons, duck breast, premium beef, oysters and of course the world-famous wine, make Aquitaine one of France’s most important regions for gastronomy.

This area of France has strong roots in tradition, historic sights flood the region and the day-to-day approach to life encourages one to slow down and enjoy simple pleasures.

When is the best time to visit Gironde?

July, August and September are the best weather months and balmy evenings and pool days are guaranteed. July and August play host to the famous weekly night markets, which are a regional highlight. May, June and October are perfect for those who like to mix cultural experiences and day trips with pool days.
