Things to do in Amsterdam

  • Art / Culture
  • Shopping / Markets
  • Night life
  • Boat trips

Amsterdam is a rather small city that can easily be explored on foot or by bike. Therefore, all the important sites are not too far off, such as Anne Frank House, which is only a 5-minute walk. The Royal Palace, for example, and Leidseplein are both just over 1 kilometer away from Morgan & Mees. Lots of galleries and street markets are also close by.

Amsterdam has something to offer for every traveller. Whether it is history, culture, nightlife, or architecture that people come for – all is possible. This city can keep you busy all day, every day. Or you can choose to take it easy, relax and take advantage of the many comfortable cafés and quiet places to visit. Rijksmuseum just reopened after undergoing a 10-year long renovation. That is something I can definitely recommend.

The location of Morgan & Mees

Morgan & Mees is just southwest of Amsterdam’s central station and only a short walk away from Anne Frank House. This area of the city, Jordaan, is one of the oldest neighborhoods of Amsterdam and frequented both by locals as well as tourists. Its narrow streets are always bustling and filled with life, perfect for a boutique hotel like Morgan & Mees.

It’s a very busy area visited by a lot of different people, mixing languages and cultures. Jordaan used to be a working class area that has gone upmarket and has turned into a very ambitious neighborhood with lots of art galleries, hip boutiques and famous restaurants. What I like most is how the 17th century atmosphere is mixing with a modern, big-city lifestyle. Yet, at the same time Jordaan is still very relaxed, the people are friendly and there is a certain intimacy to be felt on the streets.

When is the best time to visit Amsterdam?

You can always come to Amsterdam. In the spring it is the most beautiful with tulip time from March to May. During the summer it is usually the busiest when lots of tourists come to the city. In the winter it gets quite cozy, which makes it the perfect time to be inside and explore the museums or bring a book to one of the cafés and spend the afternoon reading.
