An introduction to Ostend Villa

How would you describe Ostend Villa in a nutshell?

Ostend Villa is a luxury loft that occupies a former military hospital in Oosteroever and offers direct access to the beach. It’s surrounded by blissful dunes while being close to bustling Ostend.

What is the story behind Ostend Villa, what was your inspiration to create it?

Firstly, to inspire our guests. There is nothing nicer than offering the experience of an unforgettable weekend or enabling guests to learn something from you. As an architect, I first and foremost want to inspire through my architecture and interior design. But I also have an enormous love for photography, gastronomy, travel and graphic design.

At Ostend Villa, we are able to tap into all of these passions. We work with some of the region’s best photographers and we provide high-quality breakfasts, lunches and dinners. We like to introduce our guests to new places through our travel books and we try to do everything in a very personal, graphic style.

How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of Ostend Villa?

Ostend Villa is housed in one of the original infirmaries of an old military hospital and has been stylishly renovated, without losing any of its character. It features solid brick walls and has been brightly decorated with robust materials. Black sets the tone and is softened with a touch of pink here and there. It feels like a holiday home that you might find in either Brooklyn or Sweden, all while being close to the beach.

We were inspired by Scandinavian design and worked with a lot of wood, fresh colours and black upholstery. Combining this design with the history of the building (with its high walls and visible brickwork) makes the boutique home very authentic. The wall paintings by Eva Mouton give it an extra cachet.

To you personally, what is so special about Ostend Villa?

I particularly like the fact that at Ostend Villa, you don't have to choose between staying in nature or in the city — you have both! It’s an opportunity to stay surrounded by dunes on the Belgian coast’s most beautiful beach, with the city just around the corner. A ferry boat catapults you from nature into Ostend where there is always something to do.

What do you particularly like about this part of Ostende?

I like that it allows you to experience the Belgian coast as you prefer — find a quiet beach or explore the bustling city and the shops of Oosteroever, which are never far away.

Are there any restaurants in walking distance? Any supermarkets?

There are many restaurants and supermarkets in the neighbourhood. As we have lived in Ostend for a long time and know all of its hidden pearls, we have created a travel guide for our guests. In this guide, you will find all of the hotspots and best places in Ostend.

What’s your policy on children?

Children are most welcome and will have a great time at Ostend Villa. We have games, puzzles, colouring books and beach toys for the little ones and they can go wild at Hangtime, the trampoline park around the corner.

The location of Ostend Villa

Ostend Villa is located on the car-free site of an old military hospital, which was renovated by the renowned Belgian architect Stephane Beel. When you walk out through the garden gate, you arrive at a beautiful beach where you can stroll endlessly in the dunes or along the seafront.

You can walk or cycle along the dyke to the ferry, which will bring you to the centre of Ostend. So you have everything here: nature, sea and city! This part of Ostend is called Oosteroever and in recent years, many trendy shops and restaurants have established themselves here.

When is the best time to visit West Flanders?

Ostend is nice to visit throughout the year. In many other coastal municipalities, there is little to do outside of the summer season. But Ostend is always buzzing! There are many events and cultural activities organised throughout the year, which we are happy to inform our guests about.
