Dar Kawa
Dar Kawa is an intimate Riad with 4 beautiful rooms, located in the heart of the Medina in Marrakech steps away from the Coranic School and the famous spice market.
We believe in creating a balance between stimulation and reflection, so there are spaces that allow for both.
How would you describe Riad No. 37 in a nutshell?
Riad No. 37 is a design-driven residence in the heart of Marrakech’s medina and can accommodate up to 16 guests in its eight rooms. It encompasses interior courtyards, two swimming pools and spaces that invite interaction with others and time alone.
What is the story behind Riad No. 37, what was your inspiration to create it?
A riad is not like a hotel. It’s a place where you receive guests and treat them as though they are family. When the owners purchased the riad in 2019, it was abandoned and not much more than a ruin. They restored it completely and did all of the design themselves, with the help of local craftspeople.
All of the details are handmade and the spaces are designed to encourage meaningful interaction between guests. It was important to the owner that guests found it to be a place of comfort after the hustle and bustle of Marrakech’s medina.
How would you describe the atmosphere and interior design of Riad No. 37?
The interior design draws on Scandinavian aesthetics while using local materials and craftsmanship. We believe in creating a balance between stimulation and reflection, engaging with others and spending time alone, so there are spaces that allow for both.
To you personally, what is so special about Riad No. 37?
All of our team are trained to offer the highest level of service and we want to ensure our guests have an amazing time in Marrakech. We strive to make Riad No. 37 cozy and comfortable for guests and are always on hand for last-minute requests.

When guests arrive, we talk them through everything they need to know about Marrakech, including where the best restaurants are and nearby taxi pickup spots.
In addition to Riad No. 37’s two swimming pools, we have an in-house restaurant that focuses on healthy dishes featuring seasonal ingredients. Our kitchen team was trained by Danish chef Klaus Mayer’s culinary centre “Um Mami”, which offers gastronomy training to local youth. The focus is on New Moroccan Cuisine, in which traditional techniques and local ingredients are given a contemporary twist.
Breakfast is included in the rates and is either served on the rooftop or in the downstairs dining room. In addition to bread, granola and pancakes, we serve eggs, yoghurt, seasonal fruit, fresh juice, tea and coffee. Moroccan mint tea, coffee and water are complimentary during guests’ stays while dinner can be arranged on request, depending on guests’ tastes. We also ensure guests always have something to snack on during the day, such as fruit or nuts.
In-room massage treatments can also be arranged on request.
I recommend guests start with a visit to Jemaa el-Fna and the Koutoubia Mosque before visiting Bahia Palace and Saadien's Tombs. There are also several museums worth exploring and the famous Jardin Majorelle, plus the newly opened Secret Garden, which is located within a 19th-century palace. We always ask guests what they are interested in experiencing, then we’ll recommend activities based on that.
Riad No. 37 is located around 10 minutes walk from Marrakech’s main square, Jemaa el-Fna, where you’ll find taxis and lots of terrace restaurants offering beautiful sunset views. We always send someone to escort guests to the riad and the area is very safe and accessible. The palace of the Moroccan king is around two minutes walk from the riad while the closest restaurants are just three minutes away.
Marrakech used to have distinct high and low seasons. But a couple of years ago, it became so popular that it has become less clear. June, July and August can get very hot, so it's best to visit between March and May or September and November if you want warm, pleasant temperatures.
