— Helen: “We are very isolated from the rest of the world, so the hotel is very cozy and private. For someone who is looking for privacy, I would say we are the perfect choice.”

— First of all, tell me a little about Corumbau, the hotel, please.

Helen: “The main characteristic here is that the beach is one of the most beautiful ones in Brazil. The water is really clear and looks like a swimming pool because we have no waves here. The beach is really clean and very quiet and just amazingly beautiful. We are very isolated from the rest of the world, so the hotel is very cozy and private. For someone who is looking for privacy, I would say we are the perfect choice. We have many guests who are famous and they don’t want to be seen so much, so they come here. It’s perfect for that. The hotel is also very nature-oriented. We’re very ecological, but we also offer great luxury. We have only 10 rooms and we have superb service and all the people who work here are locals but are very well-trained.”

— To you personally, what’s special about Corumbau?

Helen: “I think the most special thing is that it’s a very luxurious boutique hotel which offers not only the beauty and the privacy but also is in a great location and a beautiful setting. I think that’s the special thing about it. It’s like a Brazilian Tahiti or something. People come here because it’s very, very beautiful.

Here in Brazil we have many beautiful beaches but we don’t always have a great hotel on those beaches. That is very rare. There are maybe 5-6 great hotels on great beaches.”

— How would you describe the style of the accommodation?

Helen: “We have two styles of accommodation at Corumbau and they’re very different from each other. Firstly we have the suites: there are two here in the main building and four in the bungalows. They’re small rooms but with very clean decor, a lot of white and a lot of wood. We have the most luxurious linen and towels available, so the rooms are very comfortable.

And then we have the separate villa bungalows, which are huge. They have 150 square meters each with very big verandas where you can enjoy the view. The villas are very bright with lots of windows and very high ceilings. They all have a huge bathroom with a tub, a shower and double sinks. We also have an interior garden in the back, which is super nice and very well-decorated.”

— You also have a restaurant on at Corumbau. What are some of the typical dishes you serve?

Helen: “People mainly come here to relax and enjoy the beach, the sea and the swimming pool. So, we have to have a great gastronomy because otherwise the guests wouldn’t be so happy! The restaurant is here in our main building and we have a very strong chef.

I would describe our food as international with a very light touch of local Bahian food. One of our favorites is a stew made from fish and shrimp, called Moqueca de camarão e peixe. I would say Moqueca is one of our favorites. Another very popular one is called Escondidinho, which is shredded jerk beef, mashed cassava and grated cheese on top. And of course we also have regional desserts like Brigadeiro and Tapioca and some regional fruit like cupuaçu or mangaba.”
