An introduction to Trullo Cobalto

How would you describe the trullo in a nutshell?

Trullo Cobalto is a contemporary and minimalist villa rental in the heart of the Valle d’Itria.

What is the story behind the trullo, what was your inspiration to create it?

I work in a job that requires me to travel a lot and have stayed in many boutique hotels, with a preference for places where the attention to detail and design are high. The idea was to renovate a property in my homeland (I was born in Martina Franca) and recreate that boutique feel.

Unfortunately, I am not able to live in Puglia full-time, so the trulli are empty for much of the year. I decided to make them available to like-minded international travellers who share the same pleasure as I do in the small details. We have two villas very close to each other, the other – Trullo Fiaba – is also listed on Welcome Beyond.

How would you describe the atmosphere and interior design?

It exudes a sense of calm and relaxation. Staying there feels like you are immersed in nature but with all the comforts of a luxury accommodation with a minimalist aesthetic. It’s not pompous. It’s very down-to-earth while highlighting the characteristics of the trulli.

Trullo Cobalto rooms & rates

Trullo Cobalto is similar in size to Trullo Fiaba (also listed on Welcome Beyond), with three double bedrooms that can accommodate six adults, plus a sofa for an additional adult.

The main entrance leads to the living room where you’ll find stone-made sofas and, to the left, a master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. On the right-hand side is the kitchen and dining area, which looks out over the pool through a large, glass door. To the right of the kitchen is another master bedroom with a glass door that leads outside, plus a bathroom.

To the left of the kitchen and living area is an independent suite, which comprises an ensuite bedroom that is internally connected to a small living space with a sofa bed and an additional bathroom. Both of these rooms also have exterior access.

The outdoor area of Trullo Cobalto has an infinity swimming pool, several sun loungers and an alfresco kitchen with a wood-fired oven, plus a sink and an outdoor dining table that seats eight.

The trullo is equipped with smart home technology, as well as air-conditioning and heating throughout. Trullo Cobalto is nestled in the valley, so you feel completely immersed in nature. Children of all ages are welcome.

Things to do in Puglia & Ostuni

  • Golf
  • Hiking
  • Boat trips

Based on feedback from our guests, one of the most popular activities is the in-villa cooking class. You will learn how to make homemade pasta with the help of a local chef, then get to eat your delicious dinner. Private yoga and pilates classes are also popular.

In addition to spending time by the pool, I would recommend a couple of days on the coast as the beach clubs are very nice. You should also take time to explore some of the towns in the valley and have dinner at one of the masserias nearby.

We can also organise horse riding excursions on the beach and bike tours — you can cycle forever through the valley accompanied by superb views.

The location of Trullo Cobalto

Trullo Cobalto is located in the Valle d’Itria. It’s one of the most sought-after areas of the valley, with a number of luxury homes nearby. Martina Franca is around five minutes’ drive from the property while Ostuni is roughly 15 minutes away.

Although the towns are all very close to one another, you definitely need a car to travel around the area. The Adriatic coast with its beach clubs is around 30 minutes away while the Ionian coast with its beautiful beaches is a 50 minutes’ drive.

We have a mini-market that is just two minutes by car (or a 20-minute walk) and it has a restaurant next door. The closest supermarket is in Martina Franca.

When is the best time to visit Puglia?

July and August are the most popular months to visit but my favourite time would be May/June or September/October. It’s less crowded in the towns and the weather is still nice, without being super hot.

We stay open throughout the low season, which attracts far fewer people, and it could be an out-of-the-box Christmas or New Year’s destination. We usually open the pool (which isn’t heated) around the week before Easter and don’t close it again until the end of October.
