Masseria Petrarolo
A farmhouse turned luxury vacation rental, Masseria Petrarolo in Puglia combines rustic warmth with elegance. Nine bedrooms in the villa and pool house are set in olive and citrus groves.
The villa enjoys wonderful views of the sea from its large verandah without any neighbouring houses.
How would you describe Villa Lamia in a nutshell?
Villa Lamia is not just a villa — it is an oasis of relaxation between olive trees and the sea.
What is the story behind Villa Lamia, what was your inspiration to create it?
The villa was born out of the owners’ desire to build their own refuge in Puglia, away from the chaos of big cities. Having found this place in such an exclusive and enchanting location, they stopped looking elsewhere. It was love at first sight.
How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of Villa Lamia?
The atmosphere and design are the result of careful study, making Villa Lamia unreplicable elsewhere. The context in which the property is located makes it cosy and atmospheric while its design stands out compared to other holiday rentals.
To you personally, what is so special about Villa Lamia?
Aside from its setting within Coastal Dunes Park, I think what is most special about this villa is its interior and exterior layout. It enjoys wonderful views toward the sea from its large verandah, all with the absence of neighbouring houses. The Mediterranean garden, the land filled with olive trees — everything is special in such a beautiful setting.
The electric gate through which you enter is a revamped old bar that farmers once used to block outsiders from entering. The typical breccia driveway takes you toward the house, set within a grove of olive trees. As you arrive, a staircase with several terraces (and surrounded by a Mediterranean garden) accesses the large veranda, which serves as the heart of this house.
A large front door leads into the warm living room, where there is an indoor kitchen and a dining room. Immediately to the right is the first double bedroom, complete with an open bathroom and separate, concealed bathroom fixtures.
On the same level (next to the dining room) is a door leading to the second master bedroom (complete with ensuite bathroom) and two more doors leading out to the pergola. A large window above the dining table looks out toward the sea. Inside, behind the kitchen sink counter, is a staircase leading to the third master bedroom, with its ensuite bathroom and a utility room equipped as a guest laundry area.
The exterior is the centrepiece of Villa Lamia. Here you will find a large outdoor kitchen (equipped with a second outdoor refrigerator), a dining table with plenty of seating and outdoor sofas made of fine custom fabrics that wrap around the pool. Adjacent is an outdoor shower. In front of the pool, a staircase leads to the terrace where you can enjoy the sea view. Dotted around the house are several other relaxation areas with pergolas.
OVERVIEW
With advance notice, we can arrange several activities and services for guests, with all of the following incurring a surcharge. These include daily housekeeping, a butler or an in-house chef and waiting staff. Rental cars and private drivers can also be organised, as can bike rentals, yacht charters and airport transfers. In the nearby Masserias it is possible to do wine tastings and olive oil tastings.
Included in the rates is the final cleaning and a change of bed linen and towels every four days.
Various activities are available at Villa Lamia upon request, such as yoga classes, personal trainers or food and wine tastings. We can also arrange for in-house chef dinners and cooking classes. Nearby, it is possible to do SUP excursions and boat trips or play football, padel, tennis and basketball.
The nearest beach is about 500 metres from the house. One of my favourite beaches is Pilone, which is free and with a historic tower.
Three highlights not to miss nearby are the historic town of Ostuni, a walk or cycle along the sea within Coastal Dunes Park and a visit to Monopoli or Polignano, perhaps by boat.
We arrange activities and experiences on request according to the needs of our guests.
Among them:
Villa Lamia is just five minutes’ drive from the town of Ostuni and 15 minutes from Carovigno. Brindisi Airport is 25 minutes away and Bari Airport is one hour. The closest beach is just a few kilometres from Coastal Dunes Park.
This area of Puglia is called the Valle d’Itria, which is special because of its medieval villages (each different from the next) and pristine beaches (some sand, some rock). Its hilly landscapes offer breathtaking panoramic views while the farmlands are so perfect and manicured.
There are no restaurants or supermarkets within walking distance as we are located on a country road. But by bicycle, it is better. The closest restaurants and supermarkets are within one kilometre.
The best time to visit is from April to October. The charm of the summer season is unmatched, but the tranquility of the shoulder seasons is also appealing.
