An introduction to Dune House

How would you describe the Dune House in a nutshell?

Dune House is located in the middle of the dunes and only a 500 m walk from the famous 30km long beaches of Ameland. The villa offers a lot of privacy, due to its somewhat higher location in an area of only low-rise thatched villas, offering every villa its privacy and lovely views of nature all around.

What is the history of Dune House, what was your inspiration to create it?

The villa was built in 2008 and we became its owners in 2020. The interior desperately needed a revamp and upgrade, and we felt the location and exterior deserved a transformation to a super comfortable and stylish hideaway with a luxurious beach vibe with lots of light and neutral colors and an understated design. The living area’s large windows bring in lots of natural light and offer spectacular views of the Ameland skies.

How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of Dune House?

The atmosphere in the spacious living space is homely and comfortable, with lots of light coming in and a crisp and understated design.

To you personally, what is so special about Dune House?

Dune House is our home away from home where everything is beautiful and comfortable, a dream to escape to from our hectic daily life and the ideal place to unwind together with family and friends in the middle of the beautiful nature of Ameland. We are an active and sporty family, and we especially love Ameland for its options to be active in nature, e.g. horseback riding through the dunes and on the beach, mud walking (possible to walk from the island to the mainland with a tour guide), harvest your own oysters, play golf and tennis, surf and kitesurf and explore the cycling routes. We also love to relax on the beach or in the beautiful villa afterward :)

Dune House reviews

Verfied Welcome Beyond stay
We spend a very relaxed time. The house has been very comfortable, stylish and well maintained. we just had a heater issue as it didn't worked, but a service was there within hours. At the end it still didn't work but we finally didn't need it. All our questions have been responded immediately. The whole week was enjoyable for the entire family. Thanks for having the experience on this beautiful island.

Verfied Welcome Beyond stay
We had a wonderful stay at Dune House and felt very comfortable in this lovely, modern and high quality house.
Everything was made and designed with a sense for high standard and good taste.
The garden with its furniture is also very attractive snd comfortable, the kids loved the trampoline.
As Buren is in our opinion the most beautiful area of Ameland and Dune House is only a short walk away to the beach, it was a perfect vacation for us and we are looking forward in coming back soon.

The location of Dune House

The villa is located on its privately owned dune top on Ameland, one of the Dutch Wadden islands. The islands are highly popular holiday destinations in the Netherlands. Once you have set foot on the ferry to the islands, the holiday feeling starts instantly.

The direct surroundings of the villa are dunes in which other thatched holiday villas are located. Due to the building restrictions in the area, all villas are at least 30m apart and not higher than two floors, offering a lot of privacy.

The beautiful white sandy beach of Ameland (30km long) is only a 500 m walk away. And Dune House is only a 5 minute bicycle ride away from Nes, the island’s most vibrant and traditional village with lots of restaurants, bars and shops.

Ameland is located in the Wadden sea and 8kms from the mainland. The ferry takes you to the island in 40-50 minutes (or 20 minutes if you opt for the quick ferry) and it is even possible to take guided tours to walk from the mainland to the island.

We love the beach and nature and all the options to be active and do sports on the island.

When is the best time to visit Ameland?

Ameland is a great place to visit all year round, every season offers its own unique experience and even in colder winters Ameland offers beautiful nature to explore (and our villa has a fireplace to warm you up after outside adventures). November is also a great time to visit because of the art month on the island. Summers on Ameland tend to never get too hot due to the sea breeze.
