The Cabin
Offering magnificent views across the rugged hills of Wales, The Cabin is a cozy getaway along Offa’s Dyke Path. Eclectically decorated, it features a uniquely curved design and an indulgent bath.
It’s not a place that reveals itself immediately — it unfolds over time.
Fowey Cottage
A walk along the estuary from Golant to Fowey is one of the most rewarding experiences, particularly early in the morning.
Readymoney Cove is a small, sheltered beach ideal for swimming.
The Fisherman’s Arms in Golant is within walking distance and works well for a relaxed meal or drink by the river.
How would you describe Fowey Cottage in a nutshell?
The cottage is a quiet, design-led house set above the River Fowey in the village of Golant. It’s a place to slow down, where mornings unfold gently, the tide moves through the estuary, and everyday pace feels a little further away.
What is the story behind the cottage, and what was your inspiration to create it?
The house began as a modest Cornish cottage. Our approach was to retain that character while introducing a more considered, contemporary way of living within it.
How would you describe the atmosphere and interior design?
The interiors are deliberately restrained. Natural materials, muted tones, and soft light allow the setting to come through rather than compete with it. There’s a quiet balance between the building’s historic fabric and more contemporary elements. Nothing feels overly styled, but everything has been carefully considered.
To you personally, what is so special about the cottage?
It’s the way the house changes throughout the day and across the seasons. Early mornings bring a particular stillness to the estuary, while in the evening the light settles softly across the valley. It’s not a place that reveals itself immediately. It unfolds over time, which makes it feel quite personal.
The house is arranged over two floors, following its original structure. At its centre is the kitchen and dining space, opening onto a south-facing terrace overlooking the river. From here, a generous stair hall leads to a more intimate living room with a stone fireplace and log burner. Upstairs are the bedrooms. Movement through the house is fluid, with moments of compression and openness that create a varied spatial experience.
We’ve focused on providing everything needed for a comfortable stay, without overloading the space. This includes a fully equipped kitchen, quality linens, and a well-stocked log store. We also work with a small number of local makers, so you’ll find details like Land & Water products throughout the house. Beyond that, we’re always happy to help with recommendations or arrange simple additions if needed.
Most activities are simple and closely tied to the landscape. From the house, you can walk along the river or into the surrounding woodland. Nearby, there’s sea swimming, sailing, and coastal walks. Fowey offers a slightly more social contrast, with places to eat and spend time — though many guests choose to stay put and enjoy the house itself.
Our highlights: A walk along the estuary from Golant to Fowey is one of the simplest and most rewarding experiences, particularly early in the morning. Readymoney Cove is a small, sheltered beach ideal for swimming. The coastal path around Gribbin Head offers a different perspective, opening onto wider views across the bay.
Fowey Cottage sits within the village of Golant, tucked into a fold along the River Fowey. It’s a quiet, almost hidden setting, shaped by the water. Fowey is around ten minutes away by car and offers galleries, restaurants, and small shops. The surrounding landscape combines woodland, estuary, and coastline, with beaches and walking routes within easy reach.
What I like about this part of Cornwall is the sense of scale and quietness. This stretch of coastline feels more enclosed and gentle, with the estuary softening the landscape. There’s also a long-standing creative history here that still feels present, without being overstated. It naturally lends itself to a slower pace.
The Fisherman’s Arms in Golant is within walking distance and works well for a relaxed meal or drink by the river. For a wider choice, Fowey offers a number of restaurants and cafés within a short drive. Supermarkets are slightly further out, so most guests tend to bring provisions or stop along the way.
Each season has its own rhythm. Winter is the quietest, with a strong sense of stillness and the house becoming more inward-looking around the fire. Spring brings longer days and softer light across the river. Summer is more active, but still relatively calm compared to other parts of Cornwall. Early autumn is perhaps the most balanced, warm, quieter, and particularly rewarding.
