An introduction to Landet Stay Cabins

How would you describe Landet in a nutshell?

When we set about building Landet, we tried to create our version of the ideal country escape. Comfortable, well-designed and above all, kind and respectful of the beautiful surroundings.

What is the story behind Landet, what was your inspiration to create it?

Nature and the outdoors have always been where both of Landet’s founders retreated to rest and recharge. When I (as an Italian) moved to Stockholm from London, I fell completely in love with the Swedish countryside and its way of life. But I realised it wasn’t so easy to access, short of having one’s own place. So we set about trying to address that!

How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of Landet?

We tried to bring in the best of Scandinavia but with a more international, unexpected touch. So the cabins themselves are quite Scandinavian, with lots of wood and glass surfaces, and have been designed to blend into the natural surroundings. But the interiors bring in touches of colour and contrasting materials, which help the whole place come together as a comfortable, stylish refuge in nature.

To you personally, what is so special about Landet?

To us, Landet is the perfect base to retreat to after a day exploring the wonderful nature or the local area. Despite being only an hour from Stockholm and an hour and a half from Arlanda Airport, there is a real feeling of disconnection and tranquility. At the same time, there is an incredible number of sights and attractions (from concerts to castles, organic farm shops and activity parks) within a 15-20 minute radius.

Designed by one of Scandinavia's foremost architects, Andreas Martin-Löf, and with interiors by British designer Tobias Vernon of 8 Holland Street, each cabin is about 40 square metres and composed of three distinct spaces.

There’s a living room with two, large floor-to-ceiling windows and a fully equipped kitchen, a fireplace, air conditioning and a sofa nook which turns into two comfortable sofa beds (one that converts into two single beds 200 cm x 90 cm and one into 190 cm x 80 cm).

In the bedroom, there is a king-size bed (180 x 200 cm) with luxurious, sustainable bedding from Swedish manufacturer Movesgood.

Finally, there is a bathroom with a walk-in shower, towels by Frette and bath products from Dr Vranjes. In addition, there are two generous terraces with outdoor seating and gorgeous, ever-changing views.

We are situated under an hour from Stockholm and 15 minutes from the picturesque town of Trosa, in a 400 hectare waterfront natural reserve.

You'll find that there is plenty to do in the area, from swimming and kayaking to mushroom picking and hiking, from art and concerts to castles and farm visits (but it's also ok to just put your feet up). Upon booking, we will provide you with a list of suggested activities but please do not hesitate to get in touch if you'd like more information prior to reserving.

We would highly recommend guests take a walk around Trosa, visit the Skyspace installation by James Turrell and enjoy a scenic drive along Utflytsvägen, which is about 10 minutes away and considered one of the prettiest roads in Sweden.

The location of Landet Stay Cabins

Landet is located about 15 minutes outside Trosa, which is considered one of Sweden’s prettiest towns. In addition to a number of lovely canal-front streets to explore, there are several restaurants, cafés, bakeries and local shops. We are also close to many beaches, including Storsand, which is particularly beautiful and well-known in the area.

The nature here really is spectacular and being in the heart of the Swedish archipelago means there are almost infinite islands, coves and bays to explore. As we are relatively close to Stockholm, the area is easily reachable yet still feels tranquil enough for a real break.

The easiest way to get to Landet is by car. It takes less than an hour from Stockholm, or 1hr 30 from Arlanda airport. Please note, that the final stretch of road to the cabins is unpaved, so although it is possible to drive on it with any car and in any weather, we recommend caution. It is possible to drive up to about 10-30 metres from the cabins, which you are welcome to do if for example, you would like to drop off your bags. However, to preserve the view and the feeling of peacefulness, we kindly request that you park in the designated parking area once you have dropped off your bags. This is between 30 and 150 metres from the cabins.

When is the best time to visit Södermanland?

Of course, the summer is very special. But personally, our favourite seasons are autumn and winter. In autumn, the leaves change into a million shades of yellows and reds, and it really makes for a magical show. It is also possible to pick all sorts of berries and mushrooms at this time.

The winter is also magical, with snow and mist. Animals such as elk, deer, foxes and hares tend to visit us more often during this season.
