Kleif Farm
Nestled in the heart of the Icelandic mountains, Kleif Farm is the ideal place to unwind, reconnect with nature and immerse yourself in the local culture, and still having Reykjavik within reach.
The barn is located where I was born and raised. The surroundings give you the feeling that life is good.
How would you describe the barn in a nutshell?
The barn is a hideaway from the stressful everyday life. You get to breathe in the pure air, drink from the river, and just enjoy the beauty and quietness of the surroundings.
It combines the old renovated barn that is our game room, and the rebuilt sheep house that now serves as a modern house for families or friends. It is a perfect blend of coziness in the living spaces and playfulness in the barn.
What is the story behind the barn, what was your inspiration to create it?
The barn is a heritage to our ancestors at the farm, my parents who built it when I was a newborn. At the farm, we had already rebuilt another farmhouse some years ago. We were always looking at the old sheep house and talking about how to make it look better, and we came to the conclusion that rebuilding it in the same form would be the only way.
How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of the barn?
When designing the interiors, we wanted to use natural and raw materials, keeping it warm with a dash of unexpected rawness. We were able to keep one very old wall that is now a centerpiece in the living space. The rooms were designed to be as cozy as possible while maintaining a sense of luxury, using some very personal family artwork as decoration.
To you personally, what is so special about the barn?
The barn is located at my ancestral farm where I was born and raised. The surroundings—the mountains, the horses grazing, the river running, the privacy — all give you the feeling that life is good. It offers an opportunity to be in nature, yet the city is within reach if you ever feel too isolated.
The house consists of four bedrooms, all of which are spacious and en-suite. Each room can be set up with either double (king-size) or twin beds. There is a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering and a cozy living area with a panoramic window as its centerpiece. Attached with direct access is our game barn, which includes a pool table/table tennis, a small gym, a climbing wall, and some hangout areas.
The barn has 220 sqm and the game barn another 100 sqm.
The Barn is offered on an exclusive, self-catering basis, including all utilities, WiFi, bed linen, towels, bathrobes, and toiletries. The fully equipped kitchen has everything needed for cooking, but catered dinners and breakfasts can be arranged upon request. Daily maid service or additional cleaning can also be provided as extras, offering flexibility to suit your needs.
At our farmland, there are endless hiking possibilities. Close by, you can hike to see the highest waterfall in Iceland. Nearby, you’ll also find one of the best baths in Iceland, set in a rural setting. Being close to Reykjavík, you can always visit for a stroll or to explore the city’s many restaurants.
The natural highlights we recommend include:
The barn is located close to Reykjavík, but it feels like a completely different world, set on a peaceful farmland. The closest town is about 20 minutes away, offering everything you need for daily life.
Our location provides the perfect balance of proximity to popular attractions and the serenity of privacy. You’re close to Reykjavík and many tourist destinations, but when you return to the farm, you have all the quiet and calm you could want.
From spring through autumn is the best time for traveling in Iceland. Early May to late October is my favorite time of year. Spring and summer offer endless daylight, while autumn brings cozy evenings and still plenty of daylight. Winter has its own charm, but it’s more extreme and definitely requires a 4WD vehicle.
