An introduction to Ana Ana Artistic Habitat

How would you describe Ana Ana Artistic Habitat in a nutshell?

Ana Ana is a place that combines hospitality, style, comfort and art in its many forms. It is the house-atelier of the artist, creative director and interior designer Eric de Bruijn.

What’s the story behind Ana Ana Artistic Habitat and what was the inspiration to open it?

For Eric, innovative concepts have always been of huge importance in his professional life, and Ana Ana is the physical representation of it. For several years he lived in the countryside, and Ana Ana is the-coming-back-to-city-life, where he wants to inspire and meet other creatives.

How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of Ana Ana Artistic Habitat?

Ana Ana is constantly changing. White plays definitely a huge role in the house and makes every room an invitation to dive in and disconnect. Indoor and outdoor life are key. It’s urban artistic living, with a touch of boho.

To you personally, what is so special about Ana Ana Artistic Habitat?

Ana Ana has large spaces with different possibilities. You can find moments of complete privacy even when you are in a group. (Can’t wait to show you our Netflix room.) And the house is also an art gallery — we like to call it Artistic Habitat.

It is a unique place, designed and curated to make you feel good.

Please tell us about the food.

Algarve is widely known for its amazing gastronomy. From extremely tasty and fresh grilled fish to a wide range of seafood, you will have a lot of fun in Portimão’s restaurants. Under the old bridge is where you can find some of the best ones. If you’re looking for fine dining, a couple of Michelin star restaurants can be found in the area as well. Bonus tip: Dona Ana (only a few metres from Ana Ana) will serve you amazing, tasty, honest, comfy food. We love it.

Is Ana Ana Artistic Habitat best suited for couples, families, groups? What’s your policy on kids?

Because it is a big house, Ana Ana is perfect for families and couples or friends who want to share a house for their holidays. Kids are welcome, but you have to take care because of the stairs. Extra beds for kids are available.

The closest beach is only a 15 minutes walk away (Praia da Rocha). Our favourites are Praia dos Caneiros (Ferragudo), Praia do Alemão (between Portimão and Alvor), and Praia de Alvor (where you will find a very long wooden path for perfect sunset walks).

And of course, there is a wide range of activities as well. Surf lessons, cave trips in a boat by the coast, beach yoga, trekking, golf, tennis, fishing and many others.

Some of our highlights are: In Monchique (in the mountains) you will eat the best chicken piri-piri and have the best view of the coast in a place called Fóia, 15 km away from Portimão. You can also book a wine degustation or visit a local pastry workshop. Portuguese food is rich in fresh flavours, and you will love it.

At Ana Ana we have a special guide, curated by us, with all the must do’s, so you don’t miss anything.

Ana Ana Artistic Habitat reviews

5 of 5 stars
Verfied Welcome Beyond stay
We really loved our stay at Ana Ana. It was perfect for our family (four teens and five adults).

It's really important to me to stay in beautiful places when on holiday and this home did not disappoint. It was impeccably decorated with great attention to detail and, despite being such a sprawling space, it has quite a "warm" feeling with so many areas for each of us to lounge on our own or gather together, both inside and outside.

We also loved the layout of the house with the bedrooms in their own corridor and we were pleasantly surprised by the large dressing room, the tv room, and the downstairs outdoor dining area. One of our concerns before arrival was that we'd be fighting over the showers/toilets but since there were three additional toilets separate from the shower rooms (which also had toilets), it was never a problem.

Portimao itself was fantastic. We didn't hire a car but it was easy to walk locally and Uber was inexpensive.

Eric was a great host, very responsive when we had questions about the house or needed recommendations about the area (private dining with Chef Emidio from Faina was probably my favorite recommendation). We will definitely be back if we have the opportunity.

The location of Ana Ana Artistic Habitat

Ana Ana is located in the center of Portimão, only a few metres from the riverside, and a 15 minutes walk from the nearest beaches, although you have plenty of them in the area. You can take a taxi boat to Ferragudo where you will find a little harbour and a fisherman’s village atmosphere, as well as charming little beaches along the coast.

From Portimão you can visit the seaside, the mountains, the countryside, or the wild shores of the Atlantic. It is also only 280 km away from Lisbon. The city offers a great, typically Portuguese gastronomic experience. It’s a vibrant region, with lots of events happening mostly during summertime.

When is the best time to visit Algarve?

Summer and spring are lovely and warm, but autumn and winter have comfortable temperatures and a lot of sunshine too. So it is perfect all year round.
