An introduction to Aufberg 1110

How would you describe Aufberg 1110 in a nutshell?

Aufberg 1110 is a minimalist holiday retreat in Salzburger Land, Austria. The two holiday apartments offer modern alpine charm for 2 to 4 people with panoramic views of the Austrian Alps. The building is simple and self-assured, like sculpted out of the hillside. The roof follows the steep slope. Built completely out of wood it is economical, sustainable and warm. The natural larch facade will grow old gracefully and the whole house and its interior was made by Austrian artisans.

Aufberg 1110 is the newest addition to the Aufberg and Taxhof family. What was your inspiration to build another holiday rental?

Aufberg 1113 is run by my mother Berta, the Taxhof by my sisters Elisabeth and Katharina and I wanted to have a challenge as well, next to my job as a fashion designer. Creating something was always part of my life. Building a house is in a way very similar to my work as a fashion designer. A building is very personal — you feel the atmosphere and energy of a room. Because different people are involved, Aufberg 1110 is different from Aufberg 1113, even if the architect is the same.

To you personally, what is so special about Aufberg 1110?

For me it’s living in and with nature through huge windows and terraces facing the beautiful alpine landscape.

What do you particularly like about life in the mountains?

The best thing is the fresh air, the green hills and the sharp mountain skyline. It's a life reduced to the essence without distractions. On a sunny day the stars at night are so clear and close, it’s amazing.

To you personally, what is the biggest reward about renting Aufberg 1110 to holiday guests?

The biggest reward for me are satisfied and relaxed guests which have enjoyed a few days in this special atmosphere and comfort at Aufberg 1110, taking home some good memories.

Aufberg 1110 rooms & rates

Both holiday apartments are made out of larch wood combined with white walls, concrete surfaces and windows like pictures on the wall. It is a miracle of space with different ceiling heights and open galleries. The clear lines with little niches and the open fireplace create a cosy and comfortable lodge-like atmosphere. The two holiday apartments can also be rented together but each of them has its own kitchenette, sauna and bathroom. It feels like your own holiday house.

Aufberg 1110 is a holiday hideaway surrounded by trees with an amazing mountain view. The contemporary architecture of the building fits perfectly into the landscape and gives you the feeling that you are in good hands. Inside, the aromatic fragrance of the larches pervades the fresh mountain air.

Things to do in Salzburger Land & Piesendorf

  • Massages / Treatments
  • Golf
  • Tennis
  • Skiing
  • Hiking
  • Cycling

After breakfast I would start with a little 3 hour hiking tour. There are a lot of hiking and mountain bike tours including visits at local chalets. In the afternoon I would relax on the terraces of Aufberg or in the spa. If you are not so sportive you can drive up the Großglockner Hochalpenstrasse with your car or visit the Kapruner Stauseen. If you like classical music, you can go to the Salzburg Festival which is a one hour drive away from Aufberg.

Verfied Welcome Beyond stay
We stayed here for a week this August. It has been one of the most outstanding houses we have been to. The impeccable architecture, the stunning views, the amazing details, the beautiful night sky against the chirping of crickets, the awesomely hospitable hosts...what more can one ask for? Every single member of our family had such an amazing and relaxing time. This is one place one would not forget and one would want to return to.

The location of Aufberg 1110

We are situated 1110 meters above sea level in Salzburger Land, Austria, on the sunny side of the slope overlooking the beautiful valley with its mountains and lakes. From the valley a small street winds up the hill. Up here, there are hardly any other houses.

In autumn and winter you can enjoy the fireplace and sauna after a great day out skiing at the Kitzsteinhorn or the Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See. Other than downhill skiing you can also go cross-country skiing, ice skating, tobogganing, sleigh horse riding or just walking around the lake.

When is the best time to visit Salzburger Land?

The mountains really are a perfect place to be, no matter what time of the year it is. There is always something to do. There are so many towns and villages to see, great food to be tried, and of course, lots of activities to partake in. You can go hiking and mountain climbing during the warmer months, and then of course, skiing and sledding once there is snow.
