An introduction to Masseria Di Gregorio

How would you describe Masseria Di Gregorio in a nutshell?

Masseria Di Gregorio is the place where I spent my summers as a child. It has always embraced guests. It is a special place, it seems suspended between space and time. A perfect refuge to relax surrounded by history and nature.

What’s your background and what was your inspiration to open Masseria Di Gregorio?

My background is in culture and tourism. For 15 years I was the owner of Falsopepe, a successful bistro and restaurant. I am also artistic director of the film festival Vicoli Corti. And for the past three years, I have started to manage the family farm where Masseria Di Gregorio is located.

The country house where we used to host friends and relatives every year is a real place of welcome and sharing. I decided to combine my various experiences in this new project in 2019 which obtained the recognition of Archilovers as the best project in 2019.

How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of Masseria Di Gregorio?

Masseria Di Gregorio is a small “masseria”, a typical Apulian farm, built in the early 1900s on the edge of a ravine. The historic building, planned as an accommodation facility, combines design with hospitality and art while maintaining the simple atmosphere of country life. A context reigned by the peace of nature. In this perspective the interior design aims to give a comfortable and sober atmosphere, combining the ancient and the modern with refined vintage furniture, contemporary design elements and original objects in which we have involved local artisans.

To you personally, what is so special about Masseria Di Gregorio?

Masseria Di Gregorio is my place of the heart. Now it is also work, but the spirit of hospitality is always the same!

Please tell us about the food.

Masseria Di Gregorio’s kitchen is equipped with all the main kitchen tools. The nearest supermarket is 1 km away, it is well-stocked and also has a good choice of wines. Other shops, bars and restaurants are highlighted in the guide that we send to our guests before arrival.

Is Masseria Di Gregorio best suited for couples, families, groups? What’s your policy on kids?

Verfied Welcome Beyond stay
We loved staying at Masseria Di Gregorio. A well appointed house with excellent details to design and thoughtful placement of furniture and art. The house is clean and the beds are the most comfortable I’ve every slept in. We loved the salt water pool, the figs right off the tree and the local fish monger. One night we fired up the wood oven and had a lovely dinner alfresco. On the night we arrived we were greeted with a delicious basket of fruit and chilled wine that Vincenzo provided. Would love o return!

The location of Masseria Di Gregorio

Masseria Di Gregorio is located near the town but at the same time, it is as if it were isolated. The only sounds that can be heard are those of nature with an incredible panorama that opens onto the Gulf of Taranto.

The nearest town is Massafra, which is located in a strategic position that allows you to quickly reach the most beautiful destinations in Puglia and Basilicata. The nearest beach is 20 minutes away by car but in one hour you can visit the most beautiful beaches of Puglia which are indicated in the guide that we send to our guests.

Masseria Di Gregorio is located inside the Terra delle Gravine natural park, with large canyons where people live in cave houses and nature trails. It is surrounded by 20 hectares of cultivated fields, woods and wild nature with a splendid view of the Mediterranean sea on the horizon. It is possible to meet wild cats, foxes, hedgehogs, hares and small hawks.

When is the best time to visit Puglia?

Any time is good to visit Puglia. For those who love the sea, I recommend July and September, as the beaches are less crowded. For those who are interested in history and local traditions, the entire year is good. In August it is perfect for music lovers as there are many events and festivals.
