Masseria Petrarolo
A farmhouse turned luxury vacation rental, Masseria Petrarolo in Puglia combines rustic warmth with elegance. Nine bedrooms in the villa and pool house are set in olive and citrus groves.
The villa is a labor of love. The generosity of its indoor & outdoor spaces makes me feel like a nobleman with a privileged life.
How would you describe Villa dell’Alto in a nutshell?
Villa dell’Alto is a noble villa from the early 1800s. Fully restored to honor its past, yet completely modern and full of personal touches with an eclectic collection of objects and furnishings. Its location near the city of Lecce and the Salento wine country makes it close to everything wonderful there is to see and experience.
How would you describe the atmosphere at Villa dell’Alto?
The house and its grounds are so quintessentially Puglian yet also so elegant and spacious that you feel like you stepped back in time! The atmosphere is very relaxed and serene. It is congenial to family gatherings and groups of friends as well as events such as weddings and other special occasions.
What is so special about Villa dell’Alto to you personally?
Villa dell’Alto is a labor of love. The generosity of all its indoor and outdoor spaces make me feel like a noble countryman living a privileged life. It makes me want to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of walking my dogs, preparing a meal from the organic vegetable garden, or inviting friends over for a drink and relaxing by the pool.
Please tell us about the interior design/architecture. How would you describe it?
An eclectic mix of old restored frescoed walls with exposed stone vaulted ceilings, mixed with modern concrete floors and modern, minimal furnishings enriched by local antiques and vintage items. The combination makes the house sensual and very comfortable. The height of its vaulted ceilings, the large doors and windows give the house a very elegant feel.
The house has 6 bedrooms and 6 en-suite bathrooms. 5 of the bedrooms are on the ground floor and one is on the second floor with a beautiful terrace. All bedrooms are airy and full of natural light, very spacious and comfortable. The core of the house has a large octagonal entry vestibule with an original frescoed wall, a dining room with views of the valley, a large modern kitchen and a spacious living room complete with an underground wine cellar.
The garden is a mix of formal Italian and modern elegance: it features a large lawn with an infinity pool and stunning vistas, a pergola with grapes that frames the old country chapel, a walled-in citrus grove, an olive and fruit orchard, an organic vegetable garden, and a relaxation area with hammocks. 2 large outdoor porticoes allow for great al-fresco dining and lounging.
We offer a full concierge service to help our guests plan their special vacation. The house can be rented as a self-catered villa, or fully catered with a chef. We can also organize cooking classes, wine tours to our favorite wineries, private massages, guided art tours, or personal drivers.
The property has lots of land and it is fun to explore it on a long walk. We provide bikes for our guests and it is wonderful to ride them, explore the countryside, and discover abandoned masserias or massive olive trees that are hundreds of years old.
Wine tours are great too because we are right in the center of the Salento wine region. And of course, you can also do a lot of sightseeing in nearby cities.
Lecce is 15 minutes away and it is one of the most beautiful cities in the south of Italy with its stunning Baroque architecture. The 2 coasts are both just 20 minutes away, and while a bit crowded in August, they are delightful with crystal clear water and pristine beaches, both rocky and sandy.
We are located 15 minutes north of the city of Lecce in the heart of the Salento region of Puglia. The typical surroundings are tranquil olive orchards and vineyards. Villa dell’Alto is located right in the middle of the Adriatic and the Ionian Sea, less than 20 minutes of either coast. In 30 minutes, you can reach the wonderful cities of Ostuni, Gallipoli, Otranto, Galatina and more.
I love this part of Puglia as it is still very authentic and the food is outstanding… always fresh and delicious! The people are so hospitable that you feel at home from the moment you get there.
The climate in Puglia is so wonderful that any time of the year has its charm. I love April and May when all the fields are a profusion of flowers, and October and November for the olive harvest.
