An introduction to Modern Chalet

How would you describe Modern Chalet in a nutshell?

The chalet is a place to find peace in the South Tyrol Dolomites in Italy. You live in complete harmony with nature and you can literally feel the presence of the mountains surrounding our valley. The timeless and unique architecture adds a special touch to the experience of staying at this holiday home.

What was your motivation to build such a modern chalet and rent it to holiday guests?

In the beginning we were not planning to rent the chalet to holiday guests, it all happened rather spontaneously. We loved the idea of sharing this beautiful and magical chalet with other people and for us it is a wonderful opportunity to welcome guests from all over the world, and to bring the world to our small and quiet mountain hamlet.

Please tell us a bit about the architecture and the interior design of the chalet.

The opportunity to build a house for yourself doesn’t come very often in life. And since we are both architects, we knew that we now had the chance to realise our personal vision of architecture down to the smallest detail.

The result is two houses that reflect our vision of modern architecture while preserving a very strong link to the region and the tradition – that reference was really important for us.

The holiday chalet was designed using only local material and there is a constant interaction between the house and the nature through the materials used and the large windows opening up to the outside. There is a perfect harmony between the white surface of the Dolomite-concrete, the custom-made wood furniture from the typical mountain pine and the old rustic furniture from the area.

To you personally, what is so special about the chalet?

The architecture. And the fact that it is just a house but so much more.

Modern Chalet rooms & rates

Because of the great views of the Dolomites through the huge windows you feel like being in the middle of this amazing alpine landscape but at the same time protected from the outside. Our holiday guests love the atmosphere this creates and you can almost see how they soak up the peace and quiet and start to relax. Most of our guests so far actually did not want to leave anymore...

On the first floor of the holiday rental there is a generous living room with a comfy sofa-grouping for reading and relaxing and a fully equipped kitchen. The second floor comes with two bedrooms that are reminiscent of the rustic alpine huts from the mountains – one with views of the steep Alp-meadow and the other with views oft he Dolomites. Our holiday home offers everything for a truly relaxing and peaceful holiday.

The Dolomites were declared a UNESCO heritage site in 2009 and the entire region of of South Tyrol is just beautiful. The Fanes-Sennes Park is one of the highlights of the area – perfect for touring, mountain biking and climbing. There you can also go on small expeditions following the trails of ‘the ladinish legends’. Among the many beautiful lakes inside the park is ‘Pragser Wildsee’ – one of my absolute favourites and a must see!

The 6th Messner Mountain Museum on the Kronplatz was designed by famous architect Zaha Hadid. I am sure that will be another highlight!

The Kronplatz ski resort is just 7 kilometres away, it is the most popular ski destination in South Tyrol. We are also only 30 mins away from the famous ‘Alta Badia’ ski resort. And the nearby Valley of Pederü offers a 15 kilometres long cross-country track, besides the diverse downhill slopes. So there are plenty of options for alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, sledding, snowshoe walking etc.

Verfied Welcome Beyond stay
Absolutely delightful! Waking up in the middle of the most beautiful landscape and being able to appreciate it all from the comforts of a lovely and well designed house. A true luxury! On top of that, Caroline gave us a warm welcome and gave us amazing recommendations in the area.

The location of Modern Chalet

The chalet is located in a tiny Ladin hamlet with 23 inhabitants, 4 farms, and a church. From here it is only three kilometres to Enneberg, with an additional four kilometres to St. Vigil, the base of the ‘Kronplatz Ski Resort’. We are in the heart of the majestic mountainscape of the South Tyrol Dolomites.

Life in the mountains is dominated by nature. Most of our few neighbours are farmers and cultivate the steep meadows. They live with the seasons and circumstances. It’s nice and exciting for us to be able to experience this!

There are numerous hiking and mountain biking trails around us passing through stunning landscape. And of course the various mountain pastures are beautiful destinations to be even closer to the mountain tops of the Dolomites.

When is the best time to visit South Tyrol?

All seasons have their charm. In winter South Tyrol is perfect for all sorts of winter sports as you have so many options in the area. When spring comes and nature awakens, the entire valley blossoms and it is just beautiful! Summer is of course also great to explore the many mountain lakes for a swim and autumn is just wonderful with the changing colours of the leaves. And you are always in the middle of a natural spectacle, different in every season...
