Guest Suite Sublime Comporta - Sublime Comporta, in Alentejo, Portugal
— Gonçalo: “Sublime Comporta is a magical, unspoiled place yet to be discovered with 70 km of pristine white beaches, wild sand dunes, stunning rice fields, vineyards, pines and surrounded by a natural reserve.”
Interview By:

— How would you describe Sublime Comporta in a nutshell?

Gonçalo: “Sublime Comporta is a small boutique hotel in Comporta, Portugal, on a stunning 17 acre estate surrounded by umbrella pines, cork trees, sand dunes, vineyards, rice fields and over 70 km of pristine, white sand beaches.

Sublime Comporta is unique not only because it is the only hotel of its kind in this part of the Alentejo but also because of the balance it manages between contemporary design, comfort and the absolute respect and reverence for its natural surroundings. Sublime Comporta has also been distinguished as ‘best rural tourism in the Alentejo’ by the Portuguese Tourism Board.”

— What was your inspiration to open a small luxury hotel?

Gonçalo: “Sublime Comporta was originally conceived as a family home but the project took a life of its own. The beauty of the surroundings, the lack of other small hotels and the desire to share our home led to a total change of plans. Our family home turned into a boutique hotel in which the family also lives.”

— How would you describe the architecture of the hotel and the interior design?

Gonçalo: “The hotel was conceived by Portuguese architect José Alberto Charrua in close collaboration with ourselves. It emulates a perfect harmony and the utmost respect for nature and its surroundings. The hotel features a contemporary design warmed by earth tones and wooden accents and decor. The use of glass is abundant in all spaces constantly inviting the beautiful nature inwards.”

— Please tell us a bit more about the rooms of the hotel. And do you have a favourite?

Gonçalo: “We have 34 rooms in two different buildings. They are divided into 3 categories – 4 rooms, 10 suites and 20 villas.

The Friend’s Rooms vary from 22 to 30 sqm in size. All are located on the ground floor of the main building and all have large private balconies with open views to the garden, and king or queen size beds. The Guest’s Suites are 45 sqm and feature a mezzanine and large private terraces with open views of the woods.

Our favourite is the Owner’s Suite. This 50 sqm room features two large balconies with a private Jacuzzi, fantastic views of the garden and pool and total privacy. It includes a unique fireplace, large bathtub, oversize shower, king size bed, a sofa bed as well as a stunning headboard made of wood shavings.

We also have an indoor and outdoor pool, a Spa with Jacuzzi and sauna, bicycles and we are happy to organise picnics on the beach or the lagoon.”

— To you personally, what is so special about the whole experience of staying at Sublime Comporta?

Gonçalo: “Staying at our small boutique hotel gives you the possibility to experience all that is still authentic and unique about Portugal and the Alentejo region. Despite being untouched, Comporta is still a very alive community allowing you to experience living with the locals and feeling the rhythm of ‘slow living’ – the fisherman who works with the coming and going of the tides, the farmer attentive to the moon and its cycles, the daily life of the inhabitants of the small surrounding towns such as Melides and Alcacer. All of this complimented with the luxury of staying at a stunning and comfortable ‘home away from home’.”
