An introduction to Trullo Petrarolo

How would you describe Trullo Petrarolo in a nutshell?

Trullo Petrarolo is a beautifully restored small villa rental with two double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms plus a mezzanine level which has a further double sofa bed. The property can comfortably accommodate six people and is ideal for families.

Set in a picturesque vineyard valley with a hectare of private gardens with olive groves and fruit orchards — the rullo has a stunning 5m by 11m heated pool with a covered outdoor dining area and fully equipped kitchen with an outdoor BBQ under a pergola.

In the lower part of the garden, there is a giant grass turtle and trampoline for the kids to enjoy. The property has its own driveway entrance with parking space for up to three cars.

What is the story behind Trullo Petrarolo, what was your inspiration to create it?

I've always seen this gorgeous unrestored trullo, which is nestled in its own valley across the way from Masseria Petrarolo. But for a long time, it was not for sale, but eventually I was able to buy it and now we have done a complete renovation using the same design team as for Masseria Petrarolo which has transformed the trullo into this gorgeous villa rental, which can be rented separately to the Masseria.

We retained all the gorgeous features of the original building and yet brought the interiors up to boutique standards.

How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of Trullo Petrarolo?

Trulli are a very traditional style of building and when they are renovated, they make for truly magical spaces. The domed ceilings, original niches and tremendously thick walls create a serene sense of calm and well-being.

To you personally, what is so special about Trullo Petrarolo?

For me, the most special aspect of the Trullo is the setting in a little valley of its own, with a vineyard alongside is magical. The Trullo when you first see it makes you fall in love with it – it is utterly charming and you feel instantly at home.

Trullo Petrarolo rooms & rates

Trullo Petrarolo sleeps 6 and has two ensuite bedrooms plus a quaint loft with a queen sofa bed. The property is just over 1 hectare.

Coming into the secluded driveway, you arrive at the main entrance in the larger of the two trulli. Entering the building you come into the main living space where there is a large curved fitted sofa and a huge coffee table centered under the trullo dome. To one side is a breakfast kitchen. Just off this living room, there is a doorway that reveals a shower and toilet set inside the incredibly thick trullo walls.

Above you is the mezzanine with a double sofa bed — ideal for older kids.

As you go into the first of the two double bedrooms, you step down a step to see the bed tucked back under the dome with two niches either side allowing bedside lights. The room has a chest of drawers and connects to its own spacious en suite shower toilet.

Continuing down another step you reach the master bedroom suite with a gorgeous fireplace and its own private shaded terrace. This double bedroom has an ensuite walk-in shower room, toilet and large wash basin with mirror and towel warmers. Outside the bathroom, there is a private walled garden with outdoor shower.

Outside in the beautiful garden, there is a large covered outdoor kitchen shaded by a bamboo pergola. As well as the fully fitted outdoor kitchen - this pergola has a dining area with a table for eight. Plus a fireplace/BBQ for outdoor grilling.
