An introduction to Villa La Palma

How would you describe Villa La Palma in a nutshell?

Villa La Palma is a luxury villa rental on the island of La Palma in the western Canary Islands. It’s a beautiful place to watch the sunset over the ocean and the perfect place to be immersed in nature and Bauhaus-style architecture. The villa has everything you could want to ensure a great stay.

What is the atmosphere like?

I am always overwhelmed by the expansive 180-degree views of the massive Atlantic Ocean and its tranquillity and peacefulness. The villa only adds to that. It is ambitious and luxurious in terms of design and furnishing, but at the same time there is a certain element of warmth, which makes the house even more special.

What inspired you to build it and rent it out to guests?

I first set foot on La Palma about 15 years ago and immediately felt at home in such a powerful and inspirational environment. When I was shown the plot of land, I thought it might be a mistake not to build something there. Nevertheless, I decided to take on that challenge, and found a great architect from Berlin and someone local to help. I originally built Villa La Palma for my family, where the children could be downstairs on their own and I could rent one of the floors out to guests. Eventually, we decided to turn it into a luxury holiday villa.

What type of guests would Villa La Palma be perfect for?

Over the years we have had a lot of interesting guests who are fascinated by the architecture. But the apartments are adaptable for a wide range of guests. A couple or a small family could rent the panorama floor, as there is space enough for four guests. For a larger family or group, they can rent the garden floor so that they will have their own space with a kitchen, separate bathrooms and an entrance. In this manner, the entire house is quite flexible for most guests.

La Palma is perfect for people who enjoy overwhelming nature and activities – or a private peaceful hideaway. However, the rental might not be ideal for very small children as we do have a swimming pool.

The villa rental is pretty much self-catering with comprehensive kitchens. The kitchen on the ground floor is more basic, whereas the one upstairs is fully equipped. We provide coffee, almond firewood for the fireplace, and excellent Wi-Fi at the villa. Additionally, guests can hire a fantastic chef who can prepare delicious meals at the villa. If guests stay for over one week, a weekly cleaning service is complimentary.

There is a heated outdoor pool with lounge chairs and sofas. On request, we can arrange for a variety of treatments and classes, as there is a lady who offers great massages, Ayurveda and yoga classes. Tennis courts are nearby and available for rent.

Things to do in La Palma & Puntagorda

  • Massages / Treatments
  • Yoga classes
  • Hiking
  • Cycling
  • Scuba diving
  • Boat trips
  • Fishing

We highly recommend just taking it easy, as this green island is such a wonderful place to relax. Most of our guests usually just stay at the house or take leisurely stroll through the almond trees on Puntagorda’s walking trails that start right outside the front door. But there are quite a lot of things to do. We prefer to give recommendations specifically related to our guests’ interests. Among these are cruises, excellent dining, wine tastings, and fun things such as snorkelling and paragliding.

The mountains of La Palma are quite interesting due to the size of the island in comparison to their height of over 2,000 meters. You can also hire private guides for tours to walk along the rims of the volcanoes. Urban delights are available with trips to Santa Cruz de la Palma or Los Llanos. Los Llanos, sometimes called the ‘secret capital,’ is a great city to visit for a day trip and only about 45 mins away. There are nice restaurants in Santa Cruz, as well as theatres and interesting clubs, so I would recommend staying there overnight.

The location of Villa La Palma

The villa is located on 7,000 square metres in the northwest of La Palma in the Canary Islands. Villa La Palma is very private and isolated with the closest neighbour living about 800 meters away. You can walk to the romantic natural port of Puntagorda in about 45 mins or go by car to the sand beaches of Puerto de Tazacorte in 35 mins.

You can drive north for about 20 mins, park, and walk the rest of the way to some very isolated beaches. Five mins by car brings you to the little village of Puntagorda, with several supermarkets and a farmers’ market. The farther you travel north, the more beautiful and overwhelming nature becomes, although the weather can get colder with high winds. So, Puntagorda offers the perfect balance, as it is close, with milder temperatures, but still surrounded by nature.

There are direct flights from many European airports to La Palma, and the airport is a one hour and 10 minute drive away.

When is the best time to visit La Palma?

The location in the Canary Islands makes it great all year round. Here, even when it rains, the rain is short lived. There is beautiful sunlight and the temperatures are very moderate all year, so all months are fine for a visit. In the summer it usually doesn’t get over 35 degrees. Of course, spring through fall are the best seasons for beach holidays.
