Villa on the Cliff
Villa on the Cliff is a beautiful four-bedroom vacation villa located right on the cliff with stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Villa Ragalna is a hideaway for design lovers and those wanting to relax in a peaceful Sicilian setting.
How would you describe Villa Ragalna in a nutshell?
Surrounded by an organic vineyard of autochthonous grape varieties and a grove of olive trees, Villa Ragalna offers amazing views of the surrounding landscape and Mount Etna. It’s the ideal place for a group of friends or a large family to discover the eastern Sicilian coast while relaxing and enjoying Sicilian food and wine.
What is the story behind Villa Ragalna, what was your inspiration to create it?
The house had been abandoned for many years when we found it. Our goal was to restore the property using only local materials while respecting its original structure. Today, it is a holiday home that can accommodate up to 10 people with all the creature comforts.
How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of Villa Ragalna?
Carefully crafted by its architect owners, Villa Ragalna’s interiors perfectly frame the breathtaking panoramas outside. I would describe the interior design as welcoming and comfortable. As a nod to its past, the villa’s original woodfired kitchen and oven have been lovingly preserved.
To you personally, what is so special about Villa Ragalna?
Villa Ragalna is a hideaway for design lovers and those wanting to relax in a peaceful Sicilian setting. The saltwater infinity pool offers a front-row seat for enjoying spectacular views across the countryside while the poolside house provides everything you need to cook while being immersed in nature. It’s the perfect antidote to urban living.

Both of the bedrooms on the first floor are air-conditioned and have double beds (160x200cm) that can be separated into two single beds on request. PLEASE NOTE: The owner’s house, as well as their architect office are located next to the main house at around 30 meters. But you only share the gate of the property. The pool, terrace, pool house & garden are, of course, for the exclusive use of the guests.
Included in the rates are private parking, complimentary Wi-Fi and a welcome basket, as well as basic toiletries, bedding, bath and pool towels. We also provide a mid-stay change of bath towels and the final cleaning. There is one small safe in the villa and we have a laundry with a washing machine and ironing facilities that guests can use. While there is no air-conditioning in the kitchen, there is a fan and the property has radiant heating for the cooler months.
On request, we can provide a cot and high chair for babies, as well as accommodate some pets. Additional cleaning or a private cook for dinner can be arranged, as can the pre-stocking of grocery supplies for guests. We are always on hand to offer recommendations of things to see and do in the area.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mount Etna is deservedly famous for its volcano and hiking trails. But the region is also renowned for its wines made exclusively with autochthonous grape varieties: Nerello mascalese and Nerello cappuccio for the reds and Carricante for the whites. There are many opportunities for wine tasting near Villa Ragalna.
In summer, the beaches are often very crowded but among our favourites is the naturalistic reserve of Vendicari, which can easily be visited on a day trip to Noto. If you’re heading to Taormina, the IsolaBella is not to be missed, especially during the low season. The closest sandy beach is 35 kilometres away in Catania while Fondachello (50 kilometres away) has an immense pebble beach. Also worth visiting is the rocky beach at Plemmirio (90 kilometres away) — a naturalistic reserve near Siracusa.
Villa Ragalna is conveniently located near many of Sicily’s most popular attractions, allowing curious travellers to visit different places and discover unique landscapes during daily tours.
The villa is located three kilometres from the nearest village on the southern slopes of Mount Etna. In the village, you’ll find a restaurant and a supermarket for picking up supplies. Catania Airport is 35 kilometres away while Taormina is 70 kilometres from the villa. It’s the ideal base for discovering eastern Sicily. Siracusa, Ortigia, Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina are all 90 kilometres away. Ragusa and Noto are 120 kilometres.
Sicily can be visited all year round. Summer is perfect for lazy days beside the pool, barbecuing outdoors and sailing tours while spring offers magnificent colours in the countryside. In autumn and winter, the temperatures are mild and it’s the low tourist season on the island.
