How would you describe Casa Luzia in a nutshell?
Casa Luzia is a tranquil hideaway just a short walk from Pego Beach in Comporta. It’s a modern interpretation of the region’s traditional fishermen’s huts, designed for those who want to be close to nature without giving up comfort. The layout of three separate cabins around a sandy courtyard ensures privacy and calm — perfect for couples, families, or friends seeking a peaceful escape.
What’s the story behind the house?
We’ve always been drawn to the serenity and raw beauty of the Comporta region — the rice fields, pine forests, and endless beaches. With Casa Luzia, we wanted to create a place that captures that magic. The architecture is inspired by local tradition but translated in a contemporary way, with natural materials and thoughtful design. It’s a house that feels rooted in its surroundings, but with all the modern comforts.
What do you love most about staying at Casa Luzia?
There’s something incredibly peaceful about waking up to the sound of pine trees rustling and the scent of the sea in the air. You can walk barefoot across the sandy courtyard, enjoy a long breakfast under the sun, or simply watch the light change throughout the day. Even though you're just minutes from the buzz of Carvalhal and Comporta, the house feels wonderfully secluded.
How would you describe the atmosphere and design?
The mood is laid-back yet refined — understated elegance with a strong connection to nature. Inside, you’ll find clean lines, soft neutral tones, and large windows that blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. The three cabins form a U-shape around a sandy patio garden, creating a sense of both openness and intimacy. The design is minimal, but warm — it’s all about simplicity and ease.
For whom is Casa Luzia ideal?
Anyone who wants to disconnect and recharge. The house is great for families, and there are four en-suite bedrooms for plenty of space. It’s also ideal for friends traveling together, or couples who simply want room to breathe. We’ve made sure the house is fully accessible as well, including a dedicated ramp and a suite designed for wheelchair users.
Casa Luzia is made up of three separate cabins that are arranged in a U-shape around a peaceful, sandy courtyard with a little water cascade — it feels a bit like your own private beach. The main cabin is where you'll find the open-plan kitchen and living area, with large glass doors that let the outside in. There’s also a comfortable suite here with its own en-suite bathroom, fully accessible for wheelchair users.
On one side of the courtyard, there’s a cabin with the master suite — it’s spacious and quiet, ideal for a couple. On the other side are two more en-suite bedrooms, perfect for friends or children who want their own space. Every room has been thoughtfully designed, with cooling and heating throughout, mosquito nets, and beautiful natural light. At the edge of the garden is the pool, which can be safely enclosed for children. It’s all very easy, relaxed, and private — ideal for both social time and quiet moments.

What would we recommend to do in the area? Morning walks on Pego Beach, of course — it’s just ten minutes away on foot. You can take surfing lessons, ride horses through the dunes, or explore the rice fields on an electric bike. For something more relaxed, head to one of the beach clubs, browse the shops in Comporta, or enjoy dinner at one of the many fantastic local restaurants. And then come home, light the fire (if it’s cooler), and end the day under the stars.
Casa Luzia is set in the heart of Carvalhal, surrounded by pine forests and rice fields, just a 10-minute walk from the stunning Pego Beach. It’s a quiet, peaceful spot, yet you’re only a few minutes by car from the village of Carvalhal and about ten minutes from Comporta. That means you can easily explore the area’s beach clubs, restaurants, and shops — and then return to the calm of the house. It’s that perfect balance between seclusion and convenience, nature and culture. Whether you're walking to the beach, biking through the dunes, or heading out for dinner, everything feels close — but never crowded.
Comporta still feels unspoiled. There’s a freedom here — long stretches of empty beach, fields dotted with storks, and a slower pace of life. At the same time, there’s a creative energy, with interesting people, beautifully curated shops, and great food. It’s that rare mix of raw nature and low-key sophistication.
