An introduction to Malatesta Maison

How would you describe Malatesta Maison in a nutshell?

Malatesta Maison is a beautiful villa rental set in the rolling hills of the yet to be discovered Le Marche region in Italy. We would describe it as the perfect place to just relax, indulge in the beautiful surroundings and just feel at home.

Please tell us about the food.

There are several very good restaurants near Malatesta, the cuisine in the Marchigian hinterland is home made and traditional: ‘cappelletti in brood’, ‘crescia’ and pecorino cheese are very tasty. In Pergola you’ll find a little food shop where Secondo, the owner, will make you taste the best wines and the region’s delicatessen. In San Lorenzo you’ll find excellent organic fruits and vegetable at Valentino. A little further, in Senigallia and Pesaro, on the coast, you’ll find many shops and, if you prefer gourmet cuisine, you’ll be able to have an unforgettable experience in the two Michelin stars restaurants ‘Madonnina del Pescatore’ of Moreno Cedroni and ‘Uliassi’ of Mauro Uliassi.

But if you don’t feel like venturing out, it is also possible to have a private dinner prepared by our excellent private chef at the house.

How would you describe the style of the interior?

We thought to put together traditional and modern styles and materials of decoration and design to furnish the house. We like the idea to use natural items such as wood, linen, cement etc., mixed with small and big vintage objects to give warmth and a unique ambience to the house.

How did you end up opening a holiday house?

When we decided to restore this ancient and beautiful country house, we discovered it was a holiday resort of an important Italian family, ‘Malatesta from Rimini’. It was a great joy for us because our idea was to give a new life to the house as a villa rental and a perfect home for a special stay for our guests.

To you personally, what is so special about Malatesta Maison?

Malatesta Maison is special because it’s in the wonderful region of Le Marche, a region that has yet to be discovered. The house is located in a unique position, on the top of a hill with a view that leaves you breathless. Spending time here you won’t get tired of this beautiful landscape.

I would recommend to visit the UNESCO city of Urbino and the small villages of Corinaldo and Mondolfo. I would also suggest to go on an excursion to Catria mountain and a to visit Conero Park where the sea is absolutely wonderful.

We are 30 mins from the coast. The closest beaches are Fano, Pontesasso and Senigallia, but the most beautiful beach of the region is 1h30 away and it’s at Conero mountain – there you swim in crystal clear water and enjoy the excellent cuisine of Moreno Cedroni at ‘Clandestino Sushi Bar’.

The location of Malatesta Maison

Malatesta Maison is located in the hills of the Marche region of Italy in a small place called Montaiate. We are very close to the cultural cities of Urbino, Gubbio and Fabriano and aren’t so far from the Adriatic Sea either.

We like the green hills’ beauty, the quiet and history of each village, its unspoiled nature, the San Bartolo and Conero mountains’ crystal clear waters. To sum up, we believe that Marche is a little Italian jewel.

When is the best time to visit Le Marche?

From spring to autumn Le Marche is beautiful and very quiet and not at all as chaotic as for example Tuscany and other regions of Italy. But winter is fantastic as well, especially if you relax in our hammam or whirlpool and contemplate the rolling hills in front of you.
