Mallorca Beach House
Modern and stylish beach house in Mallorca with beautiful views over the Mediterranean and Port de Sóller.
The design is very calm, not exaggerated. It’s a combination of new and old without being over-styled. It’s like a house that’s been here all the time. It’s very human.

How would you describe Pollenca Town House in a nutshell?
Our holiday home is a proud major townhouse in the heart of the historic old town of Pollensa. Being over 150 years old, it has been completely refurbished and turned into a calm and spacious holiday home with probably one of the coolest patios on Mallorca.
What was your inspiration to buy the house and refurbish it?
We never found an area that we enjoyed as much as this part of Mallorca. We toured up in the Tramuntana mountains and saw all these picturesque villages and ended up in the town of Pollensa. There we were! This house wanted us, and as it obviously was not in use, we asked if it was for sale. It was, indeed!
We designed the complete refurbishment including the whole interior. A local architect helped with the technical plans and the realisation. For the refurbishment, we kept everything that was worth keeping, and replaced everything that had to be renewed. No fakes, no compromises: what looks old is original, what looks new is added by us.
It is really a house to 'live' in, not only a base for holidays. Therefore, we appreciate to have guests who are interested in good architecture and culture, who are looking for an original village around. People who just like good atmosphere.
How would you describe the atmosphere inside the house?
We would say that the house gives you a feeling of well-being. The design is very calm, not exaggerated. It’s a combination of new and old without being over-styled. A proud house that does not need to shout – human, elegant and likable, where every small detail has been designed.
And the climate inside the house and the great patio are extremely agreeable, at any time of the year.
How would you describe the architecture and interior design?
The townhouse had been a very reputable house in its day. Our approach was to redesign its pride. We were able to carve out the original structure from the thick sandstone walls and wooden beams in the high ceilings. Even some original furniture, doors and tiles could be conserved and given a new life. You really feel and see the contrast of old and new. Scarp angels meet rustic stonewalls.
To you personally, what makes the house so special?
It really feels like the home of our dreams. It is very spacious but does not feel too large. There are so many different places to be and feel comfortable, and not one of the spaces is oversized, even if only the two of us are here it’s perfect. And when we have guests and there are eight of us here, it feels just right as well. We simply love it.
The house has three stories. On the ground floor we have the living area and kitchen inside and the patio with pool, dining area, sunbeds and sofas outside. The staircase brings you to the first floor with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a library and an office space. All the rooms have sliding doors. In front of the library is the music room, which is open to the other rooms and the patio.
The top floor consists of one bedroom and one bathroom. The other rooms are open to each other, creating a large space that can be a work space or a second dining room. It has a kitchen as well. If you want, you can use the top floor separately for friends or kids, like a stand-alone apartment. The middle room on this floor opens to the terrace with a view over the mountains and the city. There are terraces and bathrooms on all levels, both inside and outside.

The house is self-catering. We like the benefit of having a nice and well organised kitchen that is extremely well-equipped, even for the most ambitious cooking. Most of our guests really like cooking but they also go out and visit the good restaurants within walking distance. If you are interested in music, we have a piano in the house. We have a small but well-stocked library of books in different languages. There’s not a TV in every room, but one large TV in one of the common areas. And a Sonos sound system. And a fireplace. And a stream in the pool. And enough space to store both your bikes and golf equipment.
The pool and patio area have sunbeds. There are different outdoor dining spaces, surrounded by cypresses, olive, lime, lemon and orange trees. We also have a barbecue. The patio has a lovely atmosphere. One floor up on the edge of that patio is a private terrace where you can lounge on outdoor sofas. All the terraces offer privacy, and sun and shadow during the day.
Most guests come to enjoy both, the beautiful nature and cultural sites of the area, and of course the incredibly beautiful beaches. And not at least, they come to enjoy this charming town every single day! Very famous in Pollensa are the Calvari steps which go up to a very nice chapel. And don’t miss the Club de Pollensa and the café con leche. You should also go to the famous monastery LLUC in the mountains; by car it takes about 20 mins. Half way up, you find our favourite winery Mortitx, one of the many small exclusive wine yards on the island – wine tasting recommended!
The other side of the island is flat and has beaches of all types. A nice beach is Alcúdia which is about 25 kilometers long. It has the finest white sand and the most beautiful water. It’s about a 15 mins drive from the house. And don’t miss Alcúdia itself, where the Romans once landed to set up the first settlement of the island, named “Pollentia” in 123 B.C.
Pollensa is a unique, lively but relaxed Spanish village the whole year round, very unspoilt and proud of its cultural heritage – a genuine place where about 16,000 mainly Spanish people live. You get to know your neighbours and you are always welcome to chat. There are all sorts of little shops, cafés and bars close-by without being touristic. Local bakeries, wineries, deli-supermarkets, etc. are just around the corner too. Even Pollensa’s famous market square is just a two-minute-walk from home.
Pollensa is beautifully located, in direct neighbourhood to the UNESCO World Heritage Tramuntana mountains and breath-taking Cap de Formentor as well as the most stunning beaches of the island. Everything is here, from smaller bays to larger sandy, family-friendly beaches. And even some naturist beaches are within 5-20 min driving. Pollensa is surrounded by awesome bike routes, great hiking trails, climbing rocks, caves and some of the best golf links worldwide. The great nightlife in Palma is just a 30 mins drive away and you can get to the airport in 35 mins.
Whenever! Winter is actually undervalued, which can be very nice on Mallorca, with sometimes 15 to 18 degrees, birds singing and flowering fields. The island is calm at that time, almost no tourists. And to celebrate Christmas or New Year together with all others on the market square is really an experience you never will forget. Still, high season is the time when most people come for vacation, with lots of activities, markets, cyclists, hikers, surfers. But never ever the beaches are overcrowded, as the island has plenty of them. We personally enjoy Spring and Autumn very much. Everything is calmer and the atmosphere is extremely nice. Additionally, most of the Spanish holidays are celebrated during these mid seasons of which all of them are heavily (!) celebrated in Pollensa – an exciting experience.
