The Lemon Grove
The Lemon Grove is a 3 bedroom holiday villa with stunning views of the Amalfi coast from its hill-top setting above Sorrento, close to Pompeii, Capri and Mount Vesuvius.
The apartments overlook the Amalfi Coast through their large windows with views towards the sea.
How would you describe Salerno Design Apartments in a nutshell?
Salerno Design Apartments are two apartments that have been renovated and restored by my family with the philosophy of maintaining and enhancing the original space through the use of natural materials. Aside from its historical and artistic value, the building boasts a privileged position overlooking the Amalfi Coast, with views towards the sea through its large windows.
What is the history of the apartments?
The apartments occupy a palace that dates from around 1600 in the historic centre of Salerno, between the centuries-old Cathedral and the Garden of Minerva. Together with several other projects located around Salerno, we took particular care in renovating and restoring this property as it is related to the roots of my maternal family.
How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of Salerno Design Apartments?
In terms of aesthetics, we conducted a lot of research and have styled the property with a combination of contemporary furnishings and vintage pieces belonging to my mother’s family. Regarding the philosophy of the interventions, it is clear that with so much history and culture embedded in the building, we first needed to focus on discovering and enhancing all that was hidden behind the existing plasterwork and ceilings.
To you personally, what is so special about these holiday apartments?
Through carefully selected choices, we’ve left signs of the past and established a direct connection between matter and man. The elevated views across the Amalfi Coast are also particularly special — the colours, the sea and the sky.
The property consists of two units — the Large Studio and the Small Studio. The bigger one comes with a living area (featuring one single bed) and a separate double bedroom, making a total of three beds. The smaller one is an open-plan studio with a double bed and a single sofa bed. All of the bathrooms are en-suite with big showers and each unit has a kitchenette. Both studios can be connected to create a single unit and offer incredible views across the Amalfi Coast.
This Large Studio comes with a living area (with a single bed) and a separate double bedroom for a total of 3 people. There is also a kitchenette, a bathroom with shower and a washing machine.
This smaller unit is an open space studio with a double bed and a single sofa bed. There is also a kitchenette and a bathroom with shower.
Both Studios can also be rented together as one large apartment for up to 6 people. It comes with:
- a living area (with a single bed)
- a double bedroom
- a double bedroom with an extra single sofabed
- two bathrooms with shower
- 2 kitchenettes
Each of the apartments has a kitchenette that’s equipped with a fridge, electric burners, a sink, microwave, Chromecast and Nespresso coffee machine, as well as a TV, Wi-Fi, air conditioning and heating. The large studio also has a washing machine.
All of the bathrooms have a large shower and a bidet, together with soap and other toiletries. We have stereo systems for playing music and our property manager always provides a wonderful welcome with special gifts, tips and experiences for our guests.
As it’s situated between the Amalfi Coast, the Cilento Coast and Naples, Salerno is a strategically suitable location for exploring the region. From the port of Salerno, it’s possible to reach the main beaches of the Amalfi and Cilento coasts in a short time by ferry. While there’s a city beach nearby, the most beautiful coastal beaches begin in Vietri sul Mare, which is 10 minutes drive from Salerno.
For those who prefer a holiday dedicated to entertainment, the historic centre of Salento transforms after dark with countless bars, cafes and restaurants where you can spend the evenings pleasantly, from aperitif to after dinner. The area is also known for its shopping and there are fantastic boutiques in Salento’s ancient alleys and modern city centre.
Further afield, you can tour the Greek temple ruins of Paestum combined with a mozzarella farm experience or explore the ruins of Pompeii followed by pizza and wine tasting. Boat cruises along the coastline can be complemented by a cooking class in one of the region’s quintessential lemon groves.
Salerno Design Apartments are located in the historic centre of Salerno, so you can easily explore the city on foot. There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby, as well as a promenade that connects Salerno’s two beaches. By boat or car, you can explore the Amalfi Coast and its nearby islands.
The historic heart of Salerno is one of the most interesting historical, cultural and architectural sites in Italy. In the immediate vicinity of the apartments, you’ll find the Cathedral of Salerno, the Giardini della Minerva (the oldest botanical garden in Europe) and the Church of San Pietro a Corte with its underlying Roman baths.
Also nearby is the Provincial Archaeological Museum, the Provincial Art Gallery, the Verdi Theater and the Villa Comunale, as well as the Arechi Castle. Aside from the city’s historical architecture, there are also several more recent projects by international “archistars”, such as David Chipperfield, Oriol Bohigas, Ricardo Bofill, Zaha Hadid and Oscar Niemeyer.
In my opinion, from May through to October is the best time to visit when the weather is at its best. Christmas and Easter are also popular times.
