Psacharopoulos House
Psacharopoulos House is an authentic and historic holiday villa built during the middle of the 19th century.
No one thought it was possible to build on this plot of land. It took a lot of perseverance, a few tricks and a dream.
Sifnos House
Sifnos house is sensory experience, immersing its guest in the Greek nature. Be ready to disconnect!
The house is 600 meters from the main road, where you can park your car. Direct access to the house is also possible by scooter and quad.
How would you describe Sifnos House in a nutshell?
Sifnos House is an ensemble of two little houses, which are embedded in the landscape, almost to the point of disappearing. One is whitewashed and the other is constructed from stone, and together they draw a space meeting the horizon. We are just above a little valley filled with colourful laurels in a place where the mountain meets the sea.
What is the story behind Sifnos House, what was your inspiration to create it?
No one thought it was possible to build on this plot of land. It took a lot of perseverance, a few tricks and a dream. The peculiar shapes of these two houses are the consequence of the plot’s complex nature, with its rocks and terraces. In the end, the efforts were rewarded, with the ensemble blending so well into the landscape.
How would you describe the atmosphere and the interior design of the house?
The interior exudes Mediterranean flair, with raw earth-plastered walls and terracotta floors. In addition to antique wooden furnishings, there is a green marble kitchen top and a white marble washbasin from the 1930s.
On the other hand, our practices and interests as an architect and an art director brought in contemporary art and original designer pieces from the 1950s. Many worlds come together to create a subtle blend that is unique to the Sifnos House.
To you personally, what is so special about Sifnos House?
The house is completely embedded in a landscape of terraces and dry stone walls. It’s never imposing, giving you the feeling of belonging to the island, as if you were coming home.
The luxury of this place is probably the sound that inhabits it, from the deep silences to the chirping of birds and crickets. Sifnos House is reached via a road that is worthy of a 1950s Greek film and everything seems so far away.
For us, the house is a dream come true but also the formulation of a wish for the future: a simpler, more respectful way to live and travel, in harmony with nature.
Guests arrive on a large terrace that links the two houses overlooking the sea. Built in stone, the main house has a living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and dressing room. The small white house has two bedrooms and a shared bathroom.
A long swimming pool lined with olive trees lies between the many terraces, where you can lounge on the day bed, soak up the sun on the sun loungers or sip an ouzo at sunset. At the far end of the property is a large pergola offering uninterrupted sea views. It provides the ideal setting for relaxation, sporting activities or meditation.

Rates include utilities, bed linen, towels and pool towels, cleaning for the house, linen and towels change, WiFi and air-conditioning. And when you arrive at the port of Sifnos, we will welcome you and guide you to the house. Your luggage will be transported to and from the house.
The pool is 2.5x16 metres and is embedded in a stone terrace overhung by olive trees. The heat of the summer makes it much better without heating, believe us!
The houses also have a large pergola ideal for your sport, yoga or meditation practice. It is a private space located on one of the terraces of our propriety, with sea view and surrounded by olive trees.
The shop in the nearby villages delivers groceries directly to the door. And on request a luggage transfer on arrival and departure between the main road and the house is available.
The beaches on Sifnos are simple, like they used to be in the past. There’s a handful of trees and a taverna run by a local family, with tables directly on the sand. Depending on the wind direction, one beach may be more appropriate than another.
One of our favourites is called Glypho and is 15 minutes by car from the house. It is well-preserved, the water’s crystalline and you’ll always find shade under the big tamarind trees. The village nearby, Faros, offers fine restaurants and a bakery.
My highlights are:
Bathing on the rocks of Kastro, followed by an aperitivo.
Ascending to Profit Ilias (the highest point on the island) for sunrise. Topped by a monastery, it is a 1.5 to 2-hour walk from the house and the view is unique.
Time it right and you can experience the traditional festivities in the island’s churches, in honour of their individual saints. The celebrations will transport you back to 1930, with songs and wine flowing all night long.
Sifnos House is located on the side of a small valley that is terraced with dry stone walls. In one direction, the views open out toward the sea while in the other, it overlooks several nearby villages.
A 20-minute walk through the fields brings you to the main village of Apollonia where you’ll find bars, restaurants and shops. The smaller village of Exámbela is 10 minutes walk away and has a café and a store, which delivers groceries on request. A bigger supermarket can be reached in 15 minutes while the main village is 20 minutes away.
On Sifnos, both the sea and the mountains are close by and easily reachable. The island has a large network of hiking paths with excellent indications, not to mention some of the best restaurants in the Cyclades. It has an authentic atmosphere. Not much has changed since the 1950s and there is minimal tourism infrastructure — it’s just enough while offering you the feeling that you’re alone in this world.
We recommend July – August to get the most of the island's summer feelings!
