How would you describe Casa Chafariz in a nutshell?

Casa Chafariz is set within a historical building in the Santos neighbourhood, which isn’t far from the Tagus River and within walking distance of Lisbon’s other historic districts. It’s set across five, fully-equipped apartments that have all been completely renovated in the past year, with a design aesthetic that’s clean and bright. The building is located adjacent to the Chafariz da Esperança, a public fountain that dates to 1760 and was classified as a Portuguese national monument in 1910.

The apartments blend elements of Nordic and Portuguese design styles, with a minimalist feel while retaining the authenticity of the original building. They’re bright and comfortable, without being packed full of things or decorations.

The property is set across four floors plus an additional ground floor, although there are no apartments on the ground floor. The first floor features two small apartments — one designed for two people and the other for either two or four people, with an additional sofa bed. A lift on the first floor leads to the second, third and fourth floors, all of which have a single apartment that’s designed for six people and vary from between 100 to 108 square metres in size.

Each of the apartments has a fully-equipped kitchen with a stove, fridge, freezer, coffee maker, toaster and kettle, so there’s everything guests need to prepare their own meals. But we can also arrange to have a French-style breakfast delivered to their door each morning, consisting of croissants, pain au chocolat, orange juice and coffee/tea.

Towels are changed every three days and linen every seven days, with the apartments cleaned at these times.

Most guests prefer to use the electronic keypad to access the building and their apartment on check-in (and are free to come and go as they please). But we can also offer a personalised check-in if they’d like to learn more about the neighbourhood and what to do.

We also include a detailed welcome guide in each of the apartments, with lots of information about what do in Lisbon, as well as recommendations for restaurants in the local neighbourhood, transportation and tour providers. I think walking is the best way to explore Lisbon and would suggest strolling down to the river and to the Chiado district where many of the city’s museums are located. I’d recommend visiting the National Museum of Ancient Art and the Belem Tower, as well as the LxFactory — an old industrial complex that’s been transformed into an art and dining hub.

The location of Casa Chafariz

Casa Chafariz are located in the heart of the Santos Design District and within a short walk of the Tagus River, which can be viewed from some of the apartments. Santos is a good mix of authentic old stores and restaurants with more modern boutiques, art galleries and dining establishments. It’s also within easy walking distance of Lisbon’s main tourist areas and historic neighbourhoods.

When is the best time to visit Lisbon?

In my opinion, between April and the start of June. It’s not too hot and not too busy yet. September is also nice weather-wise but it tends to be busier.
