An introduction to Villa Santorini II

How would you describe Villa Santorini II in a nutshell?

Discover an extraordinary Santorini residence in one of the less tourist-ridden villages, Megalochori. Villa Santorini was converted into a luxury rental with the help of a Feng Shui expert. Its three bedrooms and three living areas are exquisitely decorated and the house boasts all modern luxuries. An infinity pool with a sun deck, the courtyard, and the lounge areas all have magnificent views of the Aegean Sea in the distance. Situated on a hilltop, this villa sits above Megalochori village and beautiful vinyards.

Can you tell us a bit about the history of Villa Santorini II, please.

This historic house belongs to our family and was build around 1850. Our goal was to respect the original feeling of the house but also to add modern comforts like a private pool, a lounge area with sun deck and big bathrooms. For that, we consulted with experts and we even employed a Feng Shui specialist from Germany in order to follow the principles of Feng Shui during the renovation. I think the result speaks for itself: Our guests are very happy and love the aesthetics and the feeling of our house.

To you personally, what is unique about this villa rental?

The villa is located high up and offers spectacular views over the village, the Santorini vineyards and the Aegean Sea into the distance. Another big advantage of this house is its beautiful big courtyard, which includes an extravagant infinity swimming pool and sun deck made entirely by volcanic rock. Here our guests can relax in a beautiful scenery — illuminated in a dramatic way during night-time, offering an unforgettable experience. Also, I would like to mention the al fresco dining area on the top floor, where our guests dine having as backdrop the scenery of the village and the church domes.

What was your inspiration to rent the villa to vacation guests?

As it is very expensive to renovate and maintain such a big and old house in a perfect condition, we decided to open it to the public as a villa rental for the periods not occupied for our family’s vacations.

Is there anything else you want to add?

Living in a historic house like ours in a traditional village like Megalochori gives our guests a unique opportunity to have an authentic Greek experience in a relaxing environment, making their vacations unforgettable!

Villa Santorini II rooms & rates

The villa has three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a very big courtyard which includes an infinity pool, a sun deck and garden. It’s got three separate living areas, two on the ground floor and one on the first, connected by an outside stone flight of stairs.

The serenity of the mansion is evident the moment one enters the barn-door on the ground floor leading you into a compact fully equipped kitchen. Original archways lead through into the magnificent master bedroom with a domed ceiling. A majestic en-suite bathroom features a large tub and separate shower. Starting again from the beautiful courtyard, original wooden doors lead into the spacious second double bedroom, which also features a comfortable second bathroom. On the top floor the original wooden floors have been restored. The many windows on the upper level of this property allow for brightness and airiness as the beautiful light of the Cyclades seeps through. The comfortable double bedroom on this floor boasts views overlooking the vineyards to one side and the Seas of the Aegean to the other.

The location of Villa Santorini II

Megalochori is one of the most traditional settlements on the island, not touristic at all. It has a beautiful village square, the typical blue-domed churches and some very nice restaurants, that’s it. In peak season Santorini usually gets a little hectic with crowded shops and so on, but Megalochori is different. The villa is in a very good location: the best sights of the island like the Caldera are only 10-15 mins away. Actually most of our guests visit the village, come back for a quick swim in the pool and go back to the village again. It’s a very nice and relaxing place to be for a vacation. Also, Megalochori has been traffic-free for five years now.

When is the best time to visit Santorini?

The weather is typical Mediterranean with minimal rain and plenty of sun, especially from June to September. Santorini is also lovely to visit during low season, very often with wonderful weather even in April or October.
