An introduction to Villa Amalfi

How would you describe Villa Amalfi in a nutshell?

Surrounded by parkland, the villa has terraces at ground level and on the rooftop. A lovely stone-lined pool hangs on the edge of the garden, overlooking the sea. Steps lead straight down to the private beach.

Villa Amalfi is an architect-designed, two-story villa perched on a hillside overlooking the Amalfi Coast. The interiors feature high ceilings, beautiful tiled floors, contemporary furnishings and lots of art – from large abstract paintings to imposing sculptures dotted around the property.

How would you describe the atmosphere at Villa Amalfi?

Space and light is very important here and everything is built to serve nature. We also love art and artists and we support them whenever we can. Our collection is our passion. For me, all these pictures, all these sculptures, and all these pieces of furniture form part of our welcome to guests.

Is Villa Amalfi best suited for couples, families, or groups? What’s your policy on kids?

Villa Amalfi is suitable for all kinds of guests. If you are traveling with small kids under 5 years old, you should be aware of the stairs, the terraces and the pool, however.

What do you particularly like about the Amalfi coast?

Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast are simply special. They are an exciting blend of sophistication and simplicity. From superyachts and five-star hotels to rural reality with farmers still growing fruits and vegetables on steep terraced land.

The Amalfi Coast is a UNESCO world heritage site and the winding road connecting Amalfi and Sorrento is spectacular. The atmosphere here is like being in the movie ‘La Dolce Vita’.

Villa Amalfi rooms & rates

The villa is located in an exclusive area in a small private park together with a few other villas. It is very spacious, with enough room to sleep up to 10 guests.

There are four bedrooms, five bathrooms as well as a fully-equipped kitchen. The first floor has one bedroom with a queen bed and one with two twin beds. Follow the cool spiral staircase up, and there’s a studio with two queen beds, which is ideal for 2 adults or 4 children. A separate guest house has a family room and another queen bed.

The bedrooms are all decorated differently but have some common characteristics. They all have private bathrooms and views over the Mediterranean Sea, Capri or Ischia. All rooms have air-conditioning, heating and Wifi.

The large bedroom on the upper floor with direct access to the roof terrace is named the ‘Nitsch’ room exclusively showcasing artwork from the Austrian artist Hermann Nitsch.

We have a swimming pool and private access to the sea, which is quite unusual in this area. This means that in the summer months if you want to avoid crowded beaches, you can just walk down from the villa and take a bath. Ten minutes from the villa there is a tennis club as well as various hiking routes. Another great activity is to rent a traditional Gozzo and explore the coastline.

Don’t forget to visit Capri (10km away), the Fontelina Beach Club, and Casa Malaparte, a stunning example of contemporary architecture sitting on a cliff above the Gulf of Salerno, featured in Jean-Luc Godard’s 1963 film, Contempt (Le Mépris). Napoli is 55km away, and must-sees include the Museo Madre and the Nitsch Museum.

A car, or our driver, is recommended to make the most of the surrounding Amalfi Coast – and there is a lot to see. If you can tear yourself away from the pool, plan plenty of day trips!

Villa Amalfi reviews

5 of 5 stars
Verfied Welcome Beyond stay
-A very beautiful and tasteful house, warmly decorated with lots of art on the walls, books and design furniture everywhere.
-Located in one of the most beautiful places of the region with a wonderful view of Capri and the Gulf of Naples.
-Many shady spots in the garden and on the terraces where you can retreat. The summit is the big roof terrace from where you have an unimaginably beautiful view.
-From the house there is a private path to the sea with a staircase to the water for all houses within the domain (about ten/fifiteen houses so there are rarely people in this place).
-The house is not in perfect order. Everything works but there is some moisture in the house so not all cupboards close well and things like the dishwasher, kitchen tap, some shutters, Internet access need to be revised. For us this is not a problem, but if these things are important to you, it can be a disadvantage.
-In short: magical place

The location of Villa Amalfi

Villa Amalfi is located 6km from Sorrento (Gio Ponti and Hotel Parco dei Principi), 14km from Positano (Da Adolfo Beach and Baia di Laurito), 23km from the beautiful old town of Amalfi, and 23km from the historic ruins of Pompeii and Ercolano.

The area offers plenty of nice restaurants in all categories and we are happy to share our favorites with our guests. The nearest village, Massa Lubrense, has a fruit and vegetable market, as well as nice small shops including a butcher, a fishmonger, and a patisserie.

When is the best time to visit Amalfi Coast?

All-year-round really. The summer months from May to October are busier and it feels more social. The wintertime is beautiful as well though. It is my favorite period to go hiking on different routes along the coast.
