Farmhouse on a Hill
Situated on 30 acres in the heart of Zakynthos, the farmhouse is a slow-living holiday rental surrounded by olive groves and within easy access to the island’s sun-drenched beaches.
I love the smell of the house — the wood and the natural materials — and the views are amazing too!
Villa Lefkada
The villa is within walking distance of the beach, shops and tavernas.
How would you describe Villa Lefkada in a nutshell?
Villa Lefkada is an eco-friendly villa on the beautiful island of Lefkada with unique architectural elements that’s embedded in its natural environment. We are close to some of the most beautiful beaches of the Ionian Sea.
What was the inspiration or story behind Villa Lefkada?
My father started to build the villa around 15 years ago in the beautiful village of Agios Nikitas where we spent our holidays since we were kids. But, unfortunately, we lost him, so the project came to a standstill. A few years ago, we decided to restart the building process, initially just as a place for us to stay. But as time passed, we decided with our family friends (who bought the adjacent villa) that we would open them up for guests as well. The concept and the construction have been a family project we all loved.
How would you describe the atmosphere and interior design?
I’d describe it as bohemian, unconventional. It’s quite unique because of all the natural elements and materials that have been used. When you walk barefoot through the villa, you have an amazing sense of the natural world. The interior design is very minimal and elegant and most of the furniture has been hand-built, creating a relaxing and ecocentric atmosphere. But there’s also a sense of luxury because of all the high-end fittings and hand-picked decorative elements around the house.
To you personally, what is so special about the villa?
I love the smell of the house — the wood and natural materials — and the views are amazing too! It’s so relaxing just watching the sunset and the sea.
Is Villa Lefkada best suited for adults or also families with children?
It’s 100% suitable for adults and the only thing that concerns me with children is the different levels of the villa. We’ve taken every measure required by law (and more) to ensure it’s a safe space for children. Nevertheless, parents should be aware of the terraced surroundings.
The villa has two master bedrooms and one smaller bedroom, all of which are on the ground floor. The smaller bedroom has access to a separate bathroom. It can accommodate one adult in a single bed and up to two children in a smaller single bed and a hidden bed atop the wardrobe (accessible by ladder).
A wooden staircase leads up to the open-plan kitchen and living space, which features large windows. There’s a big sofa and a kitchen island that’s equipped with all the latest technological appliances. Adjacent to the living space is a large verandah with a table that can seat 10 people and there’s a swimming pool in the terraced garden. While the property is semi-detached with the adjacent villa, there is plenty of privacy between the two properties.

Almost anything that guests ask for (and is legal!) can be arranged — from a private chef to a personal shopper and a yacht, boat, or Jeep rental to explore the island. We have a concierge on hand to take care of everything our guests need, as well as offer recommendations when it comes to restaurants and what to do on Lefkada.
Lefkada is a very green island, with the trees descending to the sea, and the combination of blue and green is unique. Lefkada also has a competitive advantage due to its beautiful beaches. I particularly love Egremnoi, which is around 30 minutes away by car, and Milos. It’s located just behind the hill of Agios Nikitas and can be reached by sea taxi. A lot of people go there in July and August but as the beach is so wide and long, it doesn’t feel crowded.
So most of the activities are centered around the sea and there are plenty of water sports to participate in. Vassiliki Beach is a particularly famous spot for windsurfing and you can also go paragliding near Agios Nikitas.
Aside from its waterfalls, the mountains of Lefkada are home to several picturesque and well-preserved villages and there are museums that explore the island’s Italian cultural traditions. Each summer, there are festivals and music events you can attend and the food on the island is very good.
Villa Lefkada is in the village of Agios Nikitas on the northwest coast of Lefkada. It’s on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, with the closest just a 10 minute walk away.
The village centre is also just 10 minutes on foot and has everything you need, including several mini-markets and seafood restaurants. If you need a pharmacy or hospital, they are just a 15 minutes’ drive away in the main town of Lefkada. It’s a very new, well-equipped hospital, so the island is safe when it comes to health concerns.
Even though we’re so close to Agios Nikitas (which gets very busy in July and August), the villa still feels very private and peaceful.
Aktion International Airport is a 20 minutes’ drive from Lefkada or you can reach the island from Athens in around four hours. The journey is about to get faster, however, as the new road is almost complete.
For me, it’s June when the sea is calm and the island is very beautiful, without the crowds of July and August. Also September when the weather is not so hot. That being said, the villa is well equipped to handle the colder temperatures, so it’s not a problem to visit during winter.
